Ron Francis when asked how many offseason acquisitions need to have Stanley Cup rings:

I don’t hate this. Good depth move.
Panthers fan here so mahura was an rfa for us and we didn’t give him an offer and he took basically the minimum from you so that should tell you what you’re getting. He’s fine for your 3rd pair or a depth piece if someone gets hurt. Also he didn’t play at all during our cup run this year but he did play a lot during our run last year so that experience helps. He might have some chemistry with montour but montour was usually on the 2nd pair while mahura was with radko gudas on our 3rd during that run and he was usually on the 3rd this year in the regular season when he did play which wasn’t too often.
Giving someone for Flurey to compete with for that 7th D spot.
I feel like a west coast team, with lots of travel and opportunity for injury needs a whole lot of D. So this is probably a good move. He’s an upgrade on Jaycob Megna, so maybe the coaches will give him some games. Also, you want Evans to make it, not be gifted a spot.
Maybe this is to let fluery get CV ice time instead of warming a bench.
Depth is never a bad thing. Now they’ve got a solid #7 left D and a good #8 right D
Low risk move. I’m good with it.
