As an import, it should also be possible to play him in the ECHL or AHL if he is able to earn a roster spot. With that said it is good for him to have a CHL roster spot as a backup.
Not good news. For sure want him to be traded. Sucks he’s in the Q. Would rather have him go to Michigan but sounds like there’s an academic issue.
Positive way of looking at it, he should get top line/pp all situations ice time. In a stacked Michigan roster, if he struggled at all could be far down the pecking order.
Rimouski hosts the Memorial Cup this year, so if he does end up there via trade, it might be a good opportunity for him. Would have been sweet if the Hitmen could have snagged him, but either way, it will be interesting to see him in the CHL.
Previous CHL Import Draft 1st Overall Picks (skipped a few years because recent picks are still young):
2018 – Maxim Cajkovic
2017 – Andrei Svechnikov
2016 – Klim Kostin
2015 – Vladimir Kuznetsov
2014 – Pavel Zacha
2013 – Dimitri Osipov
2012 – Ivan Barbashev
2011 – Olli Maatta
2010 – Martin Marincin
I way prefer players being in the CHL tbh
I’m an idiot when it comes to this type of fine print, but with him not going to NCAA, does that mean there are no/fewer loopholes about not reporting? Total hypothetical- just trying to understand how university is used as an out for drafted players.
