1. I wouldn’t have mind a Marner for Scissons, a prospect and some picks. Remember the biggest asset of a Marner trade is the cap space

  2. you sell Marner so short. He might just be the greatest play maker in the modern era. And its telling that one of the best Captain's in the history of the sport in Ryan wants Marner. He knows what you guys keep denying. And its also telling that Ryan never choose to stay in Toronto because he wanted out of that toxic lockerroom lead by the toxic Captain in John Tavares. Ryan could not stand his none work ethic and drifter attitude.

  3. Marner isn't moving now.. FA is over. Honestly he was just gonna be a cap dump.. maybe they'd get a mid level draft pick like a third. But now no one has cap space

  4. Toronto should not expect to win a Mitch Marner trade. Mitch gets to choose where he wants to go and if it's to Nashville, expect a package of Nyquist, Glass, Askarov a couple of picks for Mitch 50% retained.

Utah also isn't giving up their best player on a team friendly contract for Marner. The most Toronto would be able to pry out of them is Hayton, one of their goalies and a prospect, while still retaining on Mitch.

It's either that, or having him walk as a UFA.

  5. Shanahan should be fired for not moving on from Marner before his no move kicked in. I yelled and cursed that day. Such a missed opportunity that could mean no cup for another 10 years and a new rebuild.

  6. Uh…. has anyone thought to mention to Jesse that cap space could be traded BACK to the Leafs? Like, it seems like his lightbulb isnt working and he didnt realize this

  7. It's already tiring, way too tiring, I know I just don't have to watch……see Steve's first book.

  8. Marner doesn't care about winning as much as he cares about money.

He will walk in FA and take the biggest contract.

Even if he accepts a trade, he won't extend unless it's for an egregious amount, so nobody is gonna trade for him, and Leafs will lose him for nothing.

  9. Nylander was the player they should have traded at the trade deadline. His value was and never will be higher. Despite all these younger hockey fans/social media loudmouths that want Marner gone. The "whipping boy" attitude that a vocal minority of Leafs fans have get a lot of attention but most coaches, gms, and experienced hockey minds understand the value Marner gives a team over Nylander. Oh, but he's a bum in the playoffs…despite leading all Toronto forwards in playoff points per game and +/- in their careers. Blaming Marner for the Leafs not winning a cup or getting to a final is asinine.

  10. first you have to account for the 12 mill in buyouts and retained salary for Duchene and the 3 other players…. if CF can be believed then that drops salaries aval down to approx 76 for Nashville, unless Toronto wants to retain $$ owed???

  11. It's not like a Marner trade doesn't exist at all.
Marner and a 1st for future considerations would have been perfectly fair.

  12. Let’s hope Leaf management doesn’t trade Marner for another assignment missing player .

  13. Getting pretty warm here in western WA. Not sure how that relates to the temp. in Toronto but I bet that beard is getting pretty uncomfortable.
    Shave it now! Please.
    CeleBronny!!

  14. That's funny, especially when the rumours circulating Ryan's departure were mainly around Marner the core and how Keefe coached.

Now, he wants him as a teammate. Yeah, I don't think so.

If Nashville wanted him so bad they would have pushed to get him.

There is one of two realities that's are going to happen.

    1) 99% Toronto resigns him to a 5 to 8 year at 12.5 mill plus.

2)1% he walks, as a UFA.

Letting a player of Marners calibre during regular season walk for nothing is an organization changing and defining blunder. Might as well sell the team to new ownership as no one in the league will ever take the MLSE brass seriously again in any future dealings.

  15. o'reilly to walrus: "you see how stupid these leafs fans are? they're trying to throw away a 90p guy bro! we trade a used up, midget goalie for em and BAM!"

  16. Comes down to Mitch having a contract you can't trade.. so now you have to play out the yr and let that contract expire

  17. What verifiable O'Reilly quotes do we actually have on record, as opposed to all this unverified "I heard such-n-such" nonsense? We have Marner, on record, saying I'm looking forward to playing for Berube, and Berube, on record, saying he's looking forward to coaching Marner, and the agent, on record, saying that waiving the NMC is a non-starter. And we have zero, I repeat ZERO, indication that's about to change. But hey, there's yet another column to write, or podcast to make, and that's not going to get clicks … and then it's get in line for the insatiable, view-hungry, feeders at the cyber trough.
