One element of the Marner situation that doesn’t seem to get discussed is the actual cash everybody points to the big cap but most of that’s paid off because it’s a bonus. You’re telling me a team would be afraid to take on that cap hit when there’s no money in it and it’s just a paper thing like they’d be paying the guy a few hundred thousand dollars this year to play not 10 point whatever you couldn’t move around legitimate money to make that work from your roster that kind of seems dumb

Blackhawks will be in the playoffs this year. The focus was on chemistry and depth…. The roster they have now will win 48 games.

As a leaf fan i am fine with Dubas taking his guys. He can all of them for all i care. Clark was just okay. He wasn't doing what Dallas does that's for sure.
I definitely wished JR and PA pick up Boqvist. Small risk, high return like a project if he works out. Plus he is a Swede too.
How catastrophic would it be to let both Narner and Tavares walk? Pretty sure JT would re-sign for A LOT less and Tor would have close to 20 mil in cap to play with. If theres no faith in Marner, the space seemd like the best option to fill holes

A lot of Leafs fans were on the Marner out train after the Panthers series last year. If Marner stays, don't be surprised if they have another first or second round exit against Boston, Tampa, or Florida. I think Mitch would work better if he had prime Crosby with him, who gets into the dirty areas of the ice constantly (and a great passer as well), but Matthews doesn't do that. If Marner thinks the pressure on him has been great, wait until he performs poorly in the playoffs making 12.5 or 13 mil per year.
The time for the Leafs to move off from Marner was before his No Move Clause kicked in. Toronto is probably going to run it all back again for another year and once again see if a new coach changes things. With Shanahan still running things I wouldn't be surprised if Marner gets an extension.

FYI there are many many many Leaf Fans who did NOT want Marner traded and who think he's been scapegoated. Trust Jon Coopers judgement "Marner is the smartest player in the NHL".

Now that Stamkos and Marchessault signed in Nashville there is no way they are trading Josi… which is the only player the Leafs could have gotten 1 for 1 value for Marner.

I thought Chicago messed up by taking Boqvist over Bouchard.
They compounded that choice by dealing him right away for Jones, signed him to a massive cap-anchor deal.
Time for a real makeover for Boqvist; not pulling his uvula in camp or something would be a start, as he’s been more like Boq-glass.
Any GM who trades for Marner should be fired unless the cost is something like a 4th round pick.
Marner is either heading for free agency and the cost will be the 12.5 million dollars over 7 years he will want. Or perhaps better for other teams, Marner signs for the same amount for 8 years and a NMC. Either way, burning at least another year of Matthews in Toronto is beneficial for the other 15 playoff teams.
I think it would be great if the Devils traded for Quinn…
Zito is at it again. Majority of his team are players he’s gotten off the scrap heap from other teams. Former high picks that underperform in eyes of their teams or either undervalue, or completely move on from. Zito gets them and they flourish.
