I didn’t even know what the ESPY awards were before this post.
It’s just not very tactful of her I would say. She also had to clarify « ice hockey » which lets you know about how distant from the sport she is.
I also think that Americans don’t truly understand how indifferent Canadians are when it comes to having NHL franchises in warmer climates. This was a bone of contention maybe 30 odd years ago when Canadian clubs (and northern clubs in general) were migrating southwards. But nobody really cares about that now.
American coverage of hockey is generally pretty terrible, and this is about what I would expect from an all American sports awards show covering hockey. You can just tell it’s not really in their lane (not Americans themselves, American media).
