Excited to see how this goes. Hiring Walsh was a good move. Just hope the app works better than Ballys did.
This is awesome. Mike Illitch wanted to do this same thing for the Red Wings before he sadly passed away. Now his son is in charge and it’ll never happen, Chris Illitch literally couldn’t care less about the Tigers or Wings
I’m happy about it for fellow Stars fans who have long since had to deal with either going with AT&T streaming or Fubo in an effort to watch the games. Cutting that monthly payment out will help tremendously as I can now move to something cheaper. The concern I have is that they’re saying « local » fans. I was able to watch most all of the games on Bally, but since I’m not « local » does that mean I lose out? I would like a definition of what « local » means.
Interesting how this impacts revenue sharing. Not something that Sportsnet would consider north of the border.
Shows where the NHL is relative to the NFL or NBA in terms of TV deals in some markets. I do not believe this to be a shift in model, but potentially this is playing the long game to connect with new fans by being more accessible. We’ll only know in a few years, and I’m sure the Stars will track the data and tell us if it’s successful.
As a fan though — love this! For once there’s no way ESPN+ doesn’t black you out!!
