On a human level, I appreciate that Stan has began taking steps to make amends for the awful thing he's done. I believe that he is genuinely remorseful, and I am also a firm believer in second chances, but it sets a bad precedent for the league that the first job he gets after the scandal is managing another NHL team. And even with that aside, I don't believe he was the best choice for the job—or at least, not strong enough to pick him over other qualified candidates.

It just goes to show that ownership takes for granted the loyalty of the fan base and doesn't care how alienating this decision will be. I understand that for every fan who cancels their season seats, another 5 will line up to take their place, but it is still disappointing that ownership has decided that those alienated fans don't matter.

Edit: Also, the fact that players and staff weren't consulted on the hiring shows a lack of care for employees in the organization who may be victims of abuse or harassment who haven't come out yet.

  2. Congratulations Jeff, now fans get to talk about rape instead of hockey. Good job Jeff, good job!

  3. If you think about it if you don’t like this what about Perry what about Kane same thing guys. Second chances guys.

  4. "He won still". Yeah he was gifted a dynasty of a team (EVERY SINGLE CORE PIECE WAS THERE PRIOR) and then gutted it in 5 years.

  5. Just listened to Oilers Now to Get The Informed situation of how it was Handled !! Bowman was the first year GM , the situation was brought to the Attention of Hawks management and apparently The President of the Hawks said, “I am all over it “ So he dealt with it all three weeks later after the Hawks won the Cup !! It was then turned over to H.R. and they gave the Ultimatum to the video coach who targeted Beach, he was told to “Resign or be investigated ?” He resigned !! Anyways Go listen to Oilers Mow today with David Staples to Get The Real Story !! Staples wrote a 5000 word summary of the 70-80 page report !! JJ knows way more about all of what went down in the report and “Insider Info”

  6. Oilers Mow , July 24 , with David Staples, you will be greatly enlightened on what happened and how The Hawks management handled it !! Bowman was a first year GM, he wasn’t the one handling this , the Domineering President of the Hawks, “Handled it “ or “ Mishandled it “

  7. Jackson has destroyed the Oilers because it is impossible for Oilers to play with moral authority with a guy like Stan Bowman who is short a few moral IQ. McDavid needs to stand up and say he won't play for the Oilers if Bowman is not fired. I am sure his dad would agree this is the right thing to do.

  8. I don't like Stan Bowman's speech. He talks more about rationalizing himself and running through hoops of his bad behavior.

  9. His whole career is being gifted a contender in Chicago where all the drafting and trades were already done. He essentially fu!@ed it up. He traded away players like Dustin and Artemi for nothing and drafted who exactly. Saad. Is that it Saad in that whole time. Oh wait, he drafted a few others and gave them away for nothing but a cap dump. I'm telling you this guy is not only a bad human being he's an incompetent GM. The Seth Jones trade and sign, wtf was that. This guy, when he got canned, was probably the worst GM in the league, but here comes the Oilers to gift wrap Stan another contender team where all the heavy lifting has been done once again. If they win a cup, are we going to say oh what a gm. All these crucial moves he made to build that team. No, you won't because this guy is an incompetent GM. All he's going to do is sign players for too much and let other players walk. Any 1st rounders will be traded away for scrapes, and any players in the prospect pool will be dumped for a bag of pucks. After all that, we know he covered up a rape/ sexual assault of a player and covered it up, and that allowed that pos to work with more underage players. Did Stan give that pos a recommendation? He knew where he was going to be working. Did he even care that this pos was going to be working with underage kids ? Only a bad person would do something like that. Somebody with no morals. Second chances, I believe in them, but not when the only reason you made them is to benefit yourself. He doesn't give two sh!@s about what he did. All he cares about is that he got caught and that it affected his job. The Oilers fu!@d up big time today.

  10. this is a trash decision and slap in the face to oilers fans. now it is embarrassing and morally bankrupt to support them. it was a decision that could've easily been avoided but apparently they decided having the rest of Canada and the west hate the oilers wasn't enough, time to turn its own fanbase against them as well. now younger players on their own team are at risk. if this rots the team from the inside out its karma.

  11. 😂 these so called Oilers fan are never satisfied nowadays always dwelling on what happened in the past on this and that don't get me wrong is entitled to there own opinions but sometimes there irrelevant especially when you dwell on the past abd not believing in people getting second chances. Take Kassian, Kane and Perry for example they got second chances and really shows what Edmonton wants to do with people and give them those second chances to redeem themselves. Anyways i like this move he brings 3 cups under his resume and experience, progressive wanting to win with that i be willing to look past what happened in his past as a Oilers fan

  12. Didn't like Jackson before the offseason. Just when I was starting to like him he does this. I've never been more disappointed in the franchise.

  13. When I first heard about this, I was disgusted. Now, almost 24 hours later, I've heard the press conference and Sheldon Kennedy's comments and recommendations, also Kyle Beach (the victim) is ok with this so I have to be ok with this. If 2 former players of abuse are endorsing this guy, who are we to judge? We'll see what happens during the season.

  14. Signing Bowman?! Bad optics, bad vibes, bad decision. Oilers are rotten at the top, starting with that oddball guy Katz ( sexual predator accusations); and now ‘I ignored sexual abuse by a member of my coaching staff’ Bowman? Bad.

  15. If he was a genius GM then ok fine maybe….
But he wrecked that team that he was handed (cap does that)
But why add the headache for an average GM!

  16. If Jeff Jackson wasn’t worried about the backlash why the night before did his social media go private?

  17. Honestly it’s Kyle Beach that has the opinion and no one else should unless it’s Sheldon. Kyle has clearly accepted his apology and they worked together after. This is an open and shut opinion for me due to that. No one else should be speaking on the matter.
