We own the Penguins
This was the moment I became an Islanders fan. We didn't have Sportschannel so I had to make due with listening on my Walkman. Nobody had any idea it would be a couple of decades before their next playoff series win.
This was the New Ice Age and the highlight to Al Arbour's return to head coach. Turgeon's 50th goal of the season in OT at Madison Square Garden. That was also a huge highlight.
We been stealing the Pens lunch money for decades.
I know they didn't win it, but it was a magical season for the Isles. I have very fond memories of this season and that roster.
Been an isles fan through the dynasty years but this team was still one of my favorite isles teams. Having al behind the bench beating the oilers . . I mean pens like that was so sweet. What a coach and what a goalie healy was that series. Lemieux shook al's hand after the game that said it all.
Al Arbour with this Islander team beat a Scotty-Bowman-led Mario-Jagr team who had just won 2 cups. One of the biggest playoff upsets of all time.
Then they got ran over by the Habs and Healy's been crying about it ever since.
Loved that team. Should have never let Healy go. Totally screwed up the vibe the following season. Instead, had to sit there, and watch the Rag$, and Debbies win Cups before descending into the Milbury Dark Ages…
Penguins were a dynasty?
