  1. Pete Chiarelli going after his old team! The Oil had weeks to sign these guys to better deals. Factor in Dark Cloud Bowman now to figure it out 😂

  2. At the very least, you sign them and look for trades that get you more than a 2nd and a 3rd

  3. I love this, even my longtime Oilers friend said "Interesting to see if this is harder for Bowman than covering up sex asault or not"

  4. Kane is probably going on LTIR. That will help for this year, but won’t help for next year when Edmonton is going to have to extend Draisaitl AND Bouchard.

If Edmonton matches, IIRC, they aren’t allowed to trade either of them for a full calendar year and will have to move something else off their roster. Ideally, the Oilers would have signed these 2 to one year deals, attempt to inflate their trade values by giving them sheltered playing time, and move them sometime during the year. That’s off the table with these offer sheet.

Good news is that even though the Oilers aren’t getting market value for them, they are expendable. Savoie or Jarventie who the oilers traded for this offseason can take a step and replace Holloway, and they signed Brown and Stecher in the offseason to replace Broberg.

Tl;dr: It sucks in the short term, but better in the long term to just let these two walk. STL better extend all their RFAs next year unless a GM wants to inflict karma. Looking at you Neighbours.

  5. Did Bowman play his cards wrong thinking he would get away without anything? Or he completely misread the room with the other GMs and Execs.

  6. Oilers will be a second round exit.
The hype around them was depth finally, and now they lose either Holloway (led the team in hits and was a solid depth player)

Or lose broberg (Desharnais replacement, who mind you, they let walk lmaoooo)

  7. doug armstrong's bromance with stan bowman lives on. he's just been waiting for the nhl to reinstate this dude so he can put the wood to him. the players DO make the blues an improved team so….. the oil are over the cap without these guys signed so they will have to make a roster move to keep them. isn't peter chiarelli with the blues now? ahh, gee. what a shame.

  8. Question: The Oilers know what they get if they don’t match the offer sheets now (2nd & 3rd), and are in a tough cap situation if they match any of these offers.

Can the Oilers trade any of these 2 players to another team who is close to cap floor, thus being able to match the offer, and provide a better compensation?

Example, Anaheim ducks trade their 2 third round picks to Edmonton for Holloway? Can this be done in the 7 day window?

  9. Don't the players have to sign the offer sheet before the team has to match?

  10. Just Doug Armstrong/Alex Steen casually tossing a grenade into the Oiler's locker room, because eff Stan Bowman. Glorious chaos!

  11. This is a disaster for Edmonton's future, Broberg's breakout in the playoffs was really positive. 5 years of development and bumps in the road just to be offer sheeted, just brutal.

  12. As an oiler fan this is annoying and puts stress on upper management.

As an nhl fan against the hiring of that gm, I get it. It’s in the rules. Well played, Doug Armstrong. 😅

  13. The fact that anything is considered taboo among GMs is crazy. You are COMPETING with eachother that's like players choosing not to hit eachother because it might hurt the other guys feelings. Take advantage of anything you can find, holding out from offer sheeting for no reason is so dumb

  14. The Oilers have no choice but to walk away from this. These players will not be the difference with them making the playoffs so they should let it go, upgrade the defence at the deadline and look to get a defenceman in free agency in the offseason. The Oilers cup window is this season with the veterans that have taken pay cuts to be there so blowing up the cap for two unproven young guys is a non-starter.

  15. As an oilers fan this don’t bother me, St Louis can have them those players aren’t that impactful anyways

  16. My only confusion is that we don't hear about these teams getting permission to talk to these players and an offer sheet goes out how is it not "Tampering" in the CBA? don't get me wrong, I do like the drama in the summer these can cause but still trying to figure out how there is no tampering or poaching fines going out for the offer sheets as they talked to the player behind the teams back obviously.

  17. I am pretty sure if we don't see as many offer sheets it's because of grudges and potential trades later down the road. Ask Carolina. This is also why the Habs sign their players 1 year in advance now.

  18. as much as I hate the move, its a smart one from the Blues. Not only do they hinder the Oilers even more with cap issues this season, if they match, they also mess up the Oilers cap for next year. Trade Ceci, put Kane on LTIR, to keep both, or keep Broberg with Kane on LTIR..
