@Blue Jackets de Columbus

Then keep him. He’s not a salary dump, no matter how much the league wants it to be true. Overpaid for recent production? Sure, but that’s only based on his availability, not his performance when on the ice.

If it’s a bad deal, which that would be, we should keep him. If he’s unhappy next season then we can explore a trade but I don’t see a reason to simply unload a player of his caliber.

Laine requested a trade. Great he also signed a contract. Bud if you want traded you’re really going to have to play your way into that. Nobody wants you right now. Come to camp come out of the gate hot and teams will have interest in you.

There’s no reason to just cap dump him right now

Curious, has Laine or his agent made a statement about the changes in the organization?

« You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need! » Honor your contract, show up ready to play, perform well out of the gate, and maybe your trade value will make sense to grant your wish.

Don’t want to make an additional post but I just listened to the Chris Johnston podcast:

“Well I think Laine is likely going to have to play his way to Columbus. It just feels most likely that’s he’s going to have to come back to the Blue Jackets and translate that works he’s been doing off-ice. Show something on ice that compels a team to make a trade for him.”

“There’s a huge unknown here with Laine.” – Given his situation

“Theres not many teams frankly that will be able to jam that contract into their cap picture.”

“There’s absolutely teams interested in him. Even intrigued.”

There’s less interest in Hedger than there is in Laine.

Well, he just spend time in the players assistance program, hasn’t played more than 56 games in the past 4 years, doesn’t play a solid 2 way game and makes $8.5m a year. Yeah, no one’s taking that on

  9. Given the nature of our current circumstances, if Laine can put together a solid, and structured first half of the season, he could net us quite the haul at the deadline (assuming we’re sellers, which is probably the case).

I feel like the best thing we can do here is say: “look Patrik, we tried and we’re still trying but until we find a realistic deal you’re still with us. Score 30 goals next season and you might get playoff contender interest at the trade deadline.”

I think most everyone knows that what people portray on the outside is not reflective of the mental state on the inside. You can smile for a picture but feel like dying emotionally.

However, if the question is “does he even want to play hockey anymore” I wonder if some crusty old GM or POHO took notice of his fiancée posting every single vacation, beach trip, shopping spree, dinner party – she’s an influencer, it just is what is out there – and made assumptions and it’s even harder now.

Even though those are things you do to make yourself feel better when you feel like shit.

Also Hedger is probably full of shit anyway.
