    6.1M until 2027 for a 37 year-old D

I love the guy and it would be awesome to see him in a Habs sweater, but that contract is tough to swallow, especially when we’re already so full up on D

  2. LoganHutbacher

Only if they package Crosby with him

  3. VR46Rossi420

No thanks. He wants to come now? How about when he was younger…. No interest then.

I don’t see him fitting the rebuild window and it’s not like the Habs need MORE defence.

  4. Come in your prime or don’t come at all this isn’t a retirement home

I doubt it but I think their core 3 didn’t expect to be this bad. I would think Letang probably doesn’t like playing behind Karlsson either after being the guy in Pittsburgh for so long.

I don’t see a fit though. We aren’t trying to add more vets to our D, we can’t even fit in our young guys as is. Letang plays a different role than Savard too so it’s not like you just add him into the deal.

It makes sense if they’re adding Crosby and we’re sending a few young guys in to accelerate the rebuild. But I don’t think Crosby/Letang are pushing us to a cup.

4 years x 6.1 million (includes this season) and he’s 37. Ya i don’t see how any of this fits the habs rebuild. Sorry mon Kris mais on va passer.

  8. moutardebaseball

Trop tard, maintenant c’est pu letang…

  9. math487

Un autre qui utilise montréal comme plan de retraite lol

  10. SaltyATC69

I’d take a penguins 1st to take him

  11. StudPetry

And the list of QC players trying to use MTL goes on

  12. They can give us a pick and retain 80%.

    Even then.

  13. eriverside

    :/

Nah. We have Matheson, the high scoring D from Pittsburgh already, don’t need another.

If this was 2 years ago when we were a dumpster fire, sure. Now that we’re rebuilding with all the anchors in 2-3 seasons, it’s not the time to load up on more.

Worse, he’d be taking ice time away from D that really need it.

If you really want to play for Montreal, don’t come when you’re over the hill. At least Corey Perry came on a very cheap contract and didn’t make any noise about getting parked with the taxi squad. Even at his age and pedigree he proved he deserved his ice time and made a huge impact relative to his salary. Letangs 6M is a too much.

  14. Kotkaniemint

We’re in no need of him unfortunately.

We have our veteran presence on the backend already, there’s no need adding more bodies when there’s already not enough space for our young guys to get reps in.

  15. schmarkty

Man that Karlsson trade looked terrible to me for the Pens from day one and it continues to get worse.

  16. IGame4Charity56

Retain 50% and add a sweetener and then maybe.

  17. ItzEnozz

Pens 2025 1st rounder and Id consider it but that contract is ass maybe if we trade Matheson and Letang can be that Vet instead

  18. simonlegosu

Depends. I’d rather have Letang than Anderson.

I’d consider Anderson + one of Strubble or Harris. Pittsburgh might have to add a 2nd to sweeten the deal.

Letang is still very capable and would instantly be our best D. It makes Savard more expendable at the deadline as well. Won’t happen tho.

No matter what anyone says, our defence is still atrocious and we will trade for vets at some point. There’s 0 chance our D in 5 years is 100% home grown drafted talent.

Letang absolutely makes us better this year.

  19. Le8ronJames

Yea they’re gonna need a 90% retention on that contract lol

Fake news, go watch the Twitter account from the « journalist » who shared this at first (Mark Madden)

  21. Spicy_Pickle_6

Fuck these guys and their “life-long dream” of being a Montreal Canadien. You didn’t want to come before, too fucking bad.

  22. Dank_Bubu

I would have loved it… ten years ago !
