TRANSACTION DE DERNIÈRE HEURE : Les Oilers acquièrent Vasili Podkolzin ! | Holloway PARTI ?

1. I have no idea what to think here. Looks like Canucks didn't have any faith in him. Hope it works out

  2. My first thought was they are walking on the Holllaway offer as it’s insane not too.

  3. Podkolzin will be a decent, forechecking forward. If the Oilers can get his offensive development back on track, it will be a steal. This trade probably doesn't happen if not for the Oilers cap situation and the offer sheets.

  4. I have paid attention to both players as I live in Abbotsford, but I am an Oilers fan and not a Canucks fan. As well, I have a common friend with Holloway.
Holloway isn't worth that money right now. Podkolzin had a serious injury in Abbotsford last season, but was their top player.
Vancouver only has 5 forwards, so if you arent on the top lines, your stats won't be impressive.
Holloway only impressed me after his last call up. He will get lots of ice and opportunity in St. Louis and may look like the better player of the two because of that.
But Podkolzin can fly and with the right pairing he can finish just as well as Holloway, if not better.
Good deal for the Oilers. Thats smart money and they need that right now.
Keeping Holloway at the Blues offered money is just not smart money at the end of the day.
Holloway or Podkolzin ….. On the Oilers they are fringe players with that team. Either fills the role equally. No loss immediately. Better economically. The future may tell different, but Holloway is only on a 2 year deal also with the Blues.
Sidenote ….. The Abbotsford Canucks do their gym training at the facility where RNH brother coaches, so he probably has a relationship to get a comfortable feeling going to the Oilers as well and he should be excited by this trade and get an energy boost to show what he can do in Edmonton.
I cant see Holloway being honestly excited about going to a non playoff team after being in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Gotta have employees that WANT to be there to be successful.
Edmonton is where you WANT to play and live hockey. Podkolzin came from Russia because he WANTS to play hockey.
I like this pick up for the Oilers. Holloway is a loss, but it was his choice to chase money. He has to live with that decision.

  5. Could be a sleeper hit for the Oilers, at least that's what I hope this turns out to be.

  6. Wasn’t this the player who consistently got high score chances and lost the handle each time and never was able to cash in a goal for the canucks during the oilers van round? Sounds like a mistake.

  7. Podz is a nice guy who has been leaning into a 4th line checker role. Can’t finish and loses too many battles along the boards

  8. he's a banger but hasn't found his offence yet. he's very coachable. downgrade from holloway if the plan is for podz to be his replacement. maybe he's another piece in a bigger trade?

  9. Pods was not a favourite of Coach Tocchet and his playing time drastically reduced. Gritty strong needs to be aggressive and physical on forecheck always and know his role on team.

  10. I wouldn’t say he’s even close to Holloway offensive wise but he’s a decent young player. He’s a great hitter and he’s coach able. Just don’t expect much goals or points

  11. Really happy to see it's your video when I see that kind of title, I know there's actually going to be some info

  12. With Kane out on ltir a new kostin ?

    Rnh McDavid hyman
    Skinner Drais arvidsson
    Janmark Henrique brown
    Pod Ryan perry

    Lavoie
    Hamblin

  13. Oilers fans thinking he will be playing with either Mcdavid or Draisaitl are going to be disappointed. He can't think the game fast enough for those two. He's useful in a forechecking role on the third or fourth line but have a feeling he'll get waived half way through the season to make room for Savoie or Lavoie.

  14. Canucks fan here… Podkolzin was so fun to watch because he was relentless on forecheck. Some of his major issues seemed to be finishing on goal scoring chances and being caught out of position too often. I think this is a great pickup for the Oilers, worth a 4th round pick. You potentially have an everyday NHL-er who is physical and has the potential to regain his scoring touch from his rookie year. If he doesn't regain that scoring.. He also has the tools to maybe become a serviceable bottom 6 player. Bonus.. he was very well liked in the Canucks dressing room. Gonna miss him but hope it works out in Edmonton.

  15. Man this whole offer thing is stupid, because this past season was my first time actually watching hockey regularly and into the finals, I was hoping they would play Holloway more, and Broburge was looking good in the playoffs it sucks this had to happen but anyways. Maybe I just get too attached I don't know, but that's hockey it happens.

  16. Nucks fan, he has the potential to be a legitimate 4th line grinder who has the physical prowess but lacks any finish.
