He’s not wrong. People calling Laine problematic for going into the PAP while it’s quite the opposite since it’s freaking great he seeked for help. Stupid mental health shaming.

For once I agree with Craig!
Seriously though, the fact that nobody has held Columbus accountable for anything they’ve done is the reason they remain a joke.
How many “problems” do they need to get rid of before they start looking like a functioning franchise?

I have an unhealthy intolerance for Craig Button.

Is there any player that actually got better from playing in Columbus?

Thanks. It feels like some people have been trying to be contrarians about the Laine trade and make it like Laine was an issue. This trade is such a steal for the Habs that some people want to find a bad side to it. Columbus and Winnipeg were probably the worst locker rooms in the league for a while. When your manager thinks hiring Babcock is a good idea and then your captain tries to cover up for his weird ass behaviour I tells you everything you need to know.
How many players have tried or forced their way out of Columbus and Winnipeg the last 10 years lol? It’s way above leagues average and there’s a good reason for that.

haven’t heard him get this heated in a while but i think craig is 100% correct here. all this talk abt laine being bad in the locker room or being a bad teammate or blah blah blah… the reality is, the guy suffered mentally when he was there, and the good thing is is that he went out and got the help he needed. that’s an admirable trait to have, to be able to admit when u need help, to humble urself and seek the guidance of others who know better than u. and any good therapist would tell u to find a new environment if that place is a trigger for u. we don’t know what happened w laine, but we do know he wasn’t happy, and he wanted out of columbus for his own well-being, and that feeling didn’t change after his time with the player assistance program.
think of it this way, no one ever wants to stay at a company they hate or have had bad memories with, no matter how good the new management may treat u. and maybe something there traumatized u and now just the thought of that place puts u in a negative headspace, u would want to be out of that place for good, not living there year-round. i know ive had jobs in the past where i even avoid driving past the location just because i don’t want to relive those experiences. not to say it’s the same as what laine has experienced, but we have to have a little empathy and try to relate to ppl when they go through things we may not completely understand

For the time the jackets have been a team, how much better have the Habs been as an organization?

I swear ever since those 2021 playoff predictions, Craig has been the biggest Habs believer lol, love to see it

My god, that was brutal, I loved it! Someone should put it on r/hockey.

Mathieu Perreault (Win) and Adam Fantili (CBJ) are on record saying he is a great teammate. Pascal Vincent (Laval new coach) coached Laine in Winnipeg and in Columbus, for sure he would have said it to HuGo if something was wrong. I wasn’t in the hype train at first but the more I look into it, seems great for the Habs!

Craig has been trying to redeem himself since 2021….

I don’t disagree, but is he alright?

Even when I disagree with Craig, I agree with him on this, he’s still fun.

I have long detested this guy, and usually he is pretty friendly towards the Habs.. but love this

It is funny in normal work life just about everyone will tell you if you are having mental health issues from work you should move on. If the story I read was correct, no less than 5 players asked for a trade last season due to the coaching staff. Calgary had the same problem and had to fire their coach and trade their franchise player in order to get any value for him. By every account Winnipeg had a similarly toxic locker room, to the point even Paul Maurice said to hell with this and left. I have yet to see any player or coach say the kid was rude or stuck up of whatever. I am more than willing to cut the kid a break and see how he responds to a positive energy locker room.

Craig Button is always trying to be some sort of controversial, passionate hot take artist, but he lacks the brains to know precisely where and how to stake his claim for maximum effect.
Like in that rant, he tries more to say « Columbus bad », but doesn’t really know who and what to blame, and basically ends up unintentionally ripping on Pascal Vincent, the new AHL coach who most likely *convinced* the Habs to go after Laine.
That’s why Button will always be a doofus in my mind. That and letting MSL go when Button was the CGY GM.

« Game on a schedule » is CRAZY lol. Damn Craig, I wasn’t familiar with your game.
