I think i commented on a video months ago. Dobson for Marner. This guy kind of explained my reasoning too.
Isles havent had a point producer of this level on the back end since Potvin. I agree on the 9mil per season, its steep. If Isles can get him in 7-8mil range you take it run even with his defensive faults. Isles have enough "stay at home" guys and Roy's game play is quick transitions out of our zone and playing North. He will round out his game and still have his lapses but the caliper player he is currently is still worth the big money in this day in age of the NHL.
The more years on the contract, should equal less money, so it depends on what both camps want. 7 million per season for 7 years seems fair, as it could be a team friendly deal, but you can only win now if guys leave a little money off the table, unfortunately the greed of players, their agents and even their families play a huge part now. I hate seeing so many huge salaries with many of these players not justifying what they're making, especially long term deals where you have to give up high draft picks just to get rid of them. At least I have the Dynasty memories to look back on lol, cause those were the years, as the game has changed too much for my liking, but some people prefer it I guess. Lets Go Islanders !!
Dobson was night and day better defensively in 2023-24 than 2022-23 . This guy needs to touch some grass
He isn't getting a new contract tomorrow, maybe let him play out this season b4 saying what you won't pay, defenseman usually don't find their defense part of the game until 25 plus
