   42. Curt Fraser — 348GP | 92G | 113A | 205P | 1979-1983

   Curt Fraser was a left winger drafted by the Canucks 22nd Overall (R2 P4) in 1978. Fraser was born in Cincinnati, Ohio while his dad played hockey in the IHL. Fraser grew up in Vancouver and played junior hockey in Kelowna and Victoria. In his draft year, he had 92-points in 66-games plus 256-PIMs. 

   Fraser’s NHL career started with a bang. He scored a goal and an assist in his first career game. He played 78-games with 34-points in his rookie season (1978-79).

   After his rookie season, Fraser played 3.5 more seasons with the Canucks. His best season was the 1982 season when he had 67-points in 79-games plus 10-points in 17-playoff games. Fraser eclipsed 100+ PIMs in all but one season with the Canucks. 

   At 99 PIMs in 36-games, Fraser was traded to the Blackhawks in exchange for 19-year old prospect Tony Tanti. While the trade worked out tremendously for Vancouver, The Blackhawks never got past the conference finals with Fraser on the roster. 

   Fraser was diagnosed with diabetes in 1983 and became an advocate within the community. He started the Curt Fraser Classic golf tournament in Vancouver to raise money for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

   While Fraser continued to play with the Blackhawks, injuries inevitably caught up to his playstyle. He missed time with torn knee ligaments, a broken cheekbone, back spasms, and eventually a career-ending shoulder injury that required reconstructive surgery. 

   Post-retirement, Fraser started coaching in the IHL with Milwaukee, Syracuse and Orlando. He became the first head coach for the Atlanta Thrashers in their 1999 debut season and lasted three seasons before being fired. Afterwards, he had a stint with the New York Islanders in 2003-04 as an assistant coach. Since then he has coached for the Belarusian national team, the Grand Rapid Griffins (AHL), Dallas Stars (Assistant Coach), and the Kunlun Red Stars (KHL)

   Fraser is 42nd all-time in Canucks Scoring. 

   Fun Fact: As a dual citizen, Fraser played for Canada in the 1978 World Junior Championship and the United States at the 1987 Canada Cup.

   What’s with the Canucks logo? Couldn’t they have asked the team for a proper rendering instead of this? Not enough spaghetti on the spaghetti skate.
