Absolutely deserved, glad management made the right decision

  2. Outlet25

I like Nick and think this is well deserved but is he our first Captain to play on the 3rd or 4th line?

  3. HaggisNachos

Keeping it warm until Bedard is of legal drinking age. I dig it.

  4. LearningToFlyForFree

    O Captain, my new Captain!

    Congrats, Fliggy!

  5. DiamondBurInTheRough

Love this! Foligno has been such an example both on and off the ice. It’s gonna be weird seeing someone wearing the C that isn’t Toews, but Foligno seems like a fantastic leader for these young guys. Not to mention Bedsy seems to love him and can learn a lot before the C gets inevitably transferred to him in a couple of years.

  6. limac333

Good choice. It’ll be Bedard eventually, but there’s no need to add that pressure to him just yet.

  7. souschef_boyardee

Very glad to see this, he behaved like a captain last season

  8. whoaouch

Great move, but god that Circa Sports patch is ugly

  9. biochemguy2016

I got a green foligno jersey last season. I sweet talked the staff into giving me a matching ‘C’ patch so I could put it on when he gets the C this season. Looks like it’s time to take the iron out.

Great example how even a vet has to come in and earn it. No handouts for tenure or because you may or may not be a future cornerstone of the team.

  11. Remarkable_Drag9677

    Captain now future Manager /Coach

  12. soxfan10

Absolute best decision. In two years, Bedsy is most likely going to be named captain. I felt it was appropriate last year to not have a captain to honor Toews, but this felt appropriate now.

  13. ShellshockedLetsGo

    What a joke.

Gotta let Kane and Toews go so the young guys could take charge of the room. Proceeds to make a career 3rd liner that is 36 years old the captain.

  14. dicejack2

Great guy even better leader. He was already de facto captain anyway. It dosnt matter if he’s not on the top line when he still leads the locker room. Bedard will still be captain in 2 years.

  15. re-verse

I like Nick, and I think he brings good energy to the captaincy. Good choice.

  16. Ballam86

We’re probably all okay with this.

Do agree with others though, it’s really odd seeing anyone but Toews but… Time to move on as hard as that may be.

    Foligno makes a fine captain!

  17. Chicagoblew

I feel it should have been Captain free until Bedard was ready. How long will Foligno realistically be with the team? 3-5 years max?

I understand he has the voice in the room, but is he part of the Core?

I feel he’s just a placeholder until Bedard gets the letter.

  18. EvDanger

I mean that’s fine not the end of the world…but look at the penguins and the way they have handled Sidney Crosby..that should be the blueprint.

  19. OhNoItsAndrew3

Probably the best choice for now

    Seth Jones on suicide watch

  20. NotEqualInSQL

This is past due, imo. I think this is a good choice. Bedard does not need anything extra to worry about right now, so no point in giving it to him just yet.

  21. mazerrackham

Foligno is the team’s leader on and off the ice and if anyone was going to get the C I’m glad its him.

If they had asked me, I probably would have preferred to leave the C vacant until Toews officially announced his retirement. Maybe that was their plan but they gave up when they saw he was expanding his mind at Burning Man lol

  22. BlackhawkBolly

This is such an inconsequential thing that hawks fans are going to eat up , Foligno is a nothing presence as a leader. Zero evidence he’s some incredible leader, all his post game stuff after losses last season is proof of that

  23. asvpmillzy

Nick deserves this so much, he’s a true leader in the room and he’s the guy I’d want to take that role until Bedard is ready

  24. dangshnizzle

I would have significantly preferred leaving it vacant until Bedard is ready. I would have significantly preferred at least waiting until Toews was officially retired. I would have significantly preferred Toews coming out to pass the torch in front of the team. If he could be such a leader with an A, can’t wait to see what he can do with a C instead.

  25. can’t really argue with this. Bedard will get his letter when he is ready

  26. Big Fliggy fan but I don’t understand or agree with this *at all*.

This is Bedard’s team and everyone knows that, so if we apparently aren’t ready to name him captain then why name one at all? Especially a bottom six guy that has played here one season (same tenure as Connor lol) and will likely be gone in two years.

Foligno seems like a great voice in the room and would be a leader regardless of what is on his sweater, just makes so much more sense to wait until Bedard is ready to accept the C as a natural progression from Toews to the next franchise star.

  27. pholdren

I think this is a great move. Yes Bedard is a leader and going to be captain, but why put that pressure on him in year 2? Just let him go out and play free these next couple of years, and then have Fliggy pass the torch to him on his way into retirement. Makes perfect sense to me

  28. RecognitionCrafty863

What makes it crazy cool is I remember is the all star with Team Toews vs Team Foligno.
Who would’ve thought that the captain will be literally staring at Toews. Whoa! 🤩

  29. Ganjagod420

Was searching through prop bets the other day for fun and got Foligno at +1100 odds to be the captain… pretty stoked on that it was so obvious if they knew anything about the team. They had Bedard as the overwhelming favorite which made no sense.

  30. Three_Froggy_Problem

This was the right choice. The dude absolutely deserves it.

  31. mailbox123

Will absolutely be getting a Foligno jersey with the C now

  32. Hutch25

I’m honestly surprised they named a captain this year. But I guess if you are gonna start trying to compete to any degree you need a leader. Nick Foligno is a fine man for the job.

  33. Evilsplashy

Great to hear! Looking forward to this season for sure.

  34. JustadudenamedZac

Couldn’t agree with this move more. There’s a level of accountability in his interviews and playing that other players, especially the younger ones havent devloped yet. Hopefully this will help with that.

  35. KJzero9

Well earned. He still would’ve been the unofficial captain even without the « C ». May as well make it official

  36. IdelucaAlex

he’s definitely becoming one of my favorite Blackhawks, he’s the perfect captain I love this choice

  37. hockeywithglasses

With Kane and Toews gone, there was opportunity for another veteran player to take over the room. If Nick, who came in with captain experience from Columbus, wasn’t there, the younger core might have had a leader emerge more quickly. Am I excited that the new captain is a placeholder? Not really. But here we are.

  38. EddySea

Finally, I am glad Nick has been officially recognized.

  39. jaccw16

This needed to happen at some point. Bedard clearly isn’t ready to captain a team which now consists of mainly 30+ year olds, and foligno is by and large the clear choice right now. I love this move, and I love that it gives us some identity going forward. Ay ay captain 🫡
