  1. Honzek was the #19 prospect on the consolidated rankings by Elite Prospects. Him getting picked 16th overall was far from a reach. He may only end up being a middle 6 forward at the NHL but most players drafted in the middle of the first round end up being a middle 6 forward, second pairing defense man, or worse.

From what I see, Honzek is a big player who has significant skill and skates pretty well. His ceiling was always limited which is why he wasn't drafted in the top 10. He is likely a bit more of a project than you'd like to draft 16th overall, but he has the potential to be a fairly rare commodity at the NHL level.

  2. You never know with the kids. The content of their character has yet to be written. Let's see how he responds. Who cares if he plays wing or centre. As long as he makes it, that's all i care. It's up to him.

  3. I don't anyone who was excited about this pick, or the reason the scouts chose him. I do remember reading the negative remarks about him before the draft.. Looks like a scouting fail.

  4. What was boomer even talking about 0.5 points per game in the ahl is incredibly mid. Pinder was very correct about the zary comparison. It’s way too early to be writing Honzek off. Give him a year or two at the ahl level and we can revisit to see if the pick is a bust.

They didn’t talk about Zary before because the team was in a very different environment. We weren’t talking about prospects because the rebuild hadn’t even started. We were talking about trading ufas to begin a rebuild. There was no pressure on guys like Pelletier and Zary to hurry up and start performing because the team was worried about other things. There is a lot more focus on prospects right now because how they turn out will greatly impact the teams ability to rebuild

  5. I guess the flames are always smarter than the rest of the 31 teams. This is an ongoing thing with them (chucko, nemisz, jankowski) the list goes on. God is a frustrating to be a flames fan. How does Todd Button still have a job? LEgit question.

  6. He's gonna be better than everyone's saying. This is overblown as hell…he lost most of a year to injury during his development. Kid's gonna grow up and be a player. Let them take their time with him….

  7. Bennett and Chucky just won a cup after we shipped them off to another team. Ridiculous impatience is what cost the Flames in many cases.

  8. It's only been 1 year since he was picked. No one selected after him has knocked it out of the park. Pinder's point on Zary is important, last fall it had been 2 years since Zary had been picked.

  9. It’s 100% on the player, if he thinks he can just show up and be a regular in the NHL because he was a first round pick, he’s screwed. He has to have the work ethic to improve, lifestyle included.
