To be fair "The Grind Line" was there for every cup. Counts as the core imo. Like you said at first Brian, the Wings core was larger back then
Actually in the cup runs Vernon was THE goalie in 97 and osgood was THE goalie in 08. Osgood had a 9.30 save percentage that cup final
Tampa is a perfect example…Stamkos was the #1 of the core now he is gone and Guentzel is part of that core, and I'd say he was part of Pittsburghs Core for awhile.
As a Habs Fan I'd say Montreals core is Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield and Guhle….Hutson will likely join that this season and Demidov the next. So thats 4 forwards and 2 defenseman.

Yzerman was Drafted in 1983. Didn't win a cup until 96-97. To me Larkin is walking in Yzerman shoes, only the core is a bit more together earlier, and Larking started playing Defensive Hockey way earlier than when Yzerman switched from being an elite scorer to a defensive playmaking sniper. In Yzerman's career he never seemed like a person that'd be vocal locker room person. He was awkward in interviews just like Larkin. It's pretty crazy how similar they are.

Good one today. I agree with your 3 core but…. And conjecture as you said. I believe to have a true core you have to have a b+ or higher goaltender. He could be secondary core like was mentioned but without a guy in net to keep out the easy goals and stop at lot of the quality goals you just have two good forwards and 1 good defenseman. They need that goaltender even if it changes he has to be let’s say A- caliber. If you only have one core d man and the other 5 at weak you’re not going forward with an average or sup par goaltender. He could be secondary core like you said but he should be included it’s an important position. Let’s hope we got that this season or our team D and D corps can help keep the shots off whom ever will be in net this yr. But excellent episode guys.
