I hope he finds some success at the NHL level, but I think it might be with another organization.

I think he is going to be a middle 6 NHL player sooner than later, likely later this season, but I also think he just needs to start the season in the AHL. I think he just needs to play a ton of minutes for ~20 games to get comfortable and confident in his game again. I have no doubt that by Christmas there will be an injured forward or a young player who is underperforming, and Pelletier will get another shot at the NHL. Right now he is just not playing to the level we’ve seen him play, and he needs to find his game to be a legitimate NHL player.

Learning consistency is one of the hardest things for players coming into the league. I imagine establishing routines after a lengthy amount of time lost to injury is especially hard. They should give him a lengthy look before giving up on him (and putting him on waivers would be giving up on him).

The team isn’t in win-now mode, they have the time to make sure they make the right choice on this kid. Even if it means Coronato (who has also recently slid a bit as preseason has gotten tougher) starts the season for a couple weeks in the AHL and Pelts sees time on Backlund’s line.
