Welp, I was wrong. Didn’t think much was gonna come outta this PTO.

RMNB said he was our best forward analytically 5 on 5. Do we think he slots in on the 3rd line?

We are absolutely crushing it with this move.

I mean, why would we give a roster spot to one of the two hungry, young kids with virtually no ceiling when we can have the same guy who we traded away because of an attitude problem, who put up fewer postseason points than Mantha in the post-Cup era, and who hasn’t meshed well with either of the two teams he’s been with since?

We’re not gonna regret this by Christmas; not even a little. This was absolutely the right move. Nostalgia wins championships.

We will for sure see Miro at some point this season and I think Cristall next season.

  6. I guess we’ll see confirmation re: Vrana sooner or later. If this is the only info they’re going by, it could also mean Miro made the team but they have to send him down today for LTIR-maximizing reasons. That said I’d be more than happy with Vrana as the 13th F when all is said and done.

EDIT: if puckpedia has the numbers right, I expect they will paper Lapierre to Hershey as well before putting Oshie on LTIR. The fact that they didn’t announce that, though, suggests maybe Miro isn’t a paper move.

Both Miro and Cristall are already better than Vrana. Bummer.

Hey sorry for invading this sub I’m a Sens fan coming in peace.

Just wanted to ask how Chychrun’s looked in the preseason? Quite happy with Jensen right now, he’s a good skater, responsible defensively, makes some mistakes here and there but overall a net positive.

  9. ScottyEs_burner

Meh, still feel Vrana was a nostalgia addition.

Hopefully, they cut bait quickly if he doesn’t perform.

Anyone who isn’t thrilled should consider that Miro and Cristall are better served getting big minutes in the lower leagues than 10-12 minutes a night or even benched at the NHL level. It’s already been said many times that the NHL isn’t a developmental league.

They might try to get some early season mileage out of Vrana and then trade him again, bring up Miro. This is more of a GM move than a coaching decision.

Wish we could have had Cristall and Vrana

I have to say I am in favor of this move, also this is very consistent with capitals sometimes over-baking prospects. I don’t think the team is currently set up for Cristall and Miro to get the playing time they need to develop further. Both of these players are in need of top 9 minutes and with our roster that’s not guaranteed. Id rather have vrana in there instead of burning a year in Cristall’s contract or having Miro on and off the scratch list. They both need to be playing every game they can at the moment. Whenever Leonard comes and ovi leaves is when I want the youth turnover to happen. There’s no point in bringing up a rookie if you don’t have the place for him to be learning every night.

i was really pulling for cristall, and i think he deserved that spot to be completley honest. but this feels like the right move. why play him for just 9 games or burn the first year of his ELC? and returning him to the WHL gives him an extra year of development.

they could opt to bring him in for 9 games later in the season if he tears shit up, or if we find ourselves in the heat of a playoof berth (intentionally mispelled).

im guessing if cristall got the spot, that means that the PTO for vrana wouldnt work out an we would lose him, and hes played fairly decent in the preseason.

  15. for anyone who wants to keep up with Cristall, Kelowna’s social media accounts are great both highlights and shenanigans wise.

(last year the team carved pumpkins with powertools. it was great)

  16. From afar, it seems like an admin move more than a hockey one. Those who could be sent down were sent down, and the one who would have lost everything got to stay.

The eye test seems doubtful that Vrana was the best choice, but it was not a terrible one either. However, Vrana is not really the archetype of an all-around, never mind a defensive player, so to be productive he’s going to need some opportunities (favorable O-starts, a good center, lesser quality of comp., etc). It might work on the third line if we decide to go with an offensive line, and it makes sense with Lapierre or McMichael, but it’s another offensive question mark piled on top of a squad that already has plenty.

I would hate it if we kept the guy for him to stay on the bench, have 3 games and changing teammates to prove himself and when he fails, to see him back to waivers.

  17. This is a stupid situation because Cristall is not a junior player but because of rules can’t play in a league where he belongs. I think there is talent being left in the table by plateauing these players development. Theoretically this is second junior season where he could feasibly have played against better competition but he has no choice but to “hone his game” against 17 year olds? It doesn’t make sense or work properly

  18. HighwaySixtyOne

Welp, looks like my Vrana jersey is relevant again.

For as long as it lasts this time.

  19. Next year our team will have Leonard, Miro, Cristall, McMichael, and Lapierre on offense. Not a bad group of young guns coming up in the organization.

  20. newtotampa16

Everyone saying Cristall would get more development in the WHL, but he has nothing left to prove there. He’s dominated that league. He either gets middle 6 minutes now, or next year. Why not give it to him now, and then when Leonard comes in next year we are even more of a contender? We don’t have room for Miro, Leonard, and Cristall next year, so by year end McM or Lappy needs to go. I assume Milano gets shipped as well by year end

  21. Jake the Snake – Very happy for him, it’s been a long road and hopefully he’s good mentally and hockey wise.

  22. HowardBunnyColvin

sucks about cristall it’s a tough decision to make for one spot. but on the other hand SNEK

  23. BoofWellington69

Happy for Jake but not happy to see Miro go back to Hershey. They better plant him on the 1st line down there and let him actually develop for a top 6 role if he’s in their bottom 6 again I’m rioting.
