Pretty huge to have 3 D on the second pair. I can’t wait to see how Ekman, Larsson, and McCabe play together.

  2. saltface14

Goaltending and defense are better obviously, forward depth is better too considering you have McMann as an extra forward and Jarnkrok and Dewar on IR.

  3. TheCarrier89

Defence and goaltending is definitely better. Offense has remained pretty stagnant however.

  4. LtColumbo93

    Tanev > Brodie

    Ekman-Larsson > Klingberg

Benoit = Giordano (roughly, considering Gio’s age last season)

    Timmins < Liljigren

Overall D should be better but I’m still not convinced playing Timmins over Liljigren is the right move.

For the forwards, top 6 basically is what it is and the 4th line is similar enough. Any improvement will hinge on how that 3rd line does.

Goalies are unproven but overall should be better considering Sammy was a bit of a disaster for a lot of last season.

  5. Tehdougler

wasn’t expecting Timmins in over Lily.. wonder what is gonna happen with him. 3mil is alot to keep as a healthy scratch if thats the plan.

  6. I did not like Gregor at all so any improvement there is nice, but it’s still just the fourth line.

Am I an idiot or did I completely miss what happened with the Nylander at center experiment 3.0?

  8. Isn’t Nylander suppose to be tried at center this year?

Did they already change their mind I wasn’t paying too much attention during the preseason.

I think some people forget that Bertuzzi was completely garbage for the first two thirds of the season. He only lasted like 5 games on that top line before he was routinely demoted to the fourth line every other game. The play would constantly die with him, his puck handling was abysmal to the point that Keefe was calling him out to work more on his skills, AKA “this player sucks, but I’m stuck with him so at least try to become usable”.

Not having a player that can’t skate or handle the puck at an NHL level on the first line for the majority of the season should help

Guess the Nylander at C experiment is over? I thought they had said that Berube was into giving it a proper timeline to see if the concept succeeds? Or is because of a few injuries Berube doesn’t like what the wingers would be of willy is at C?

I thought Myers looked better than Liljigren or Timmins in the preseason. I like how there is enough depth that if you don’t play well enough, you sit. ( eg: Liljigren and McMann)

It turned out that Brodie, Klingberg, Liljegren, Giordano, and Samsonov were largely unplayable in the playoffs. All those dudes are gone.

  13. brownmagician

Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

« Samsonov in net! Reilly! Laggerson. NYLANDER. Jankrook?! And DOMI BOYS! »

  14. elmicomago

Once everyone gels, I think we’re a better squad than last year.

Perhaps not where we need to be, but a step or two closer.

    I hope. I pray.

  15. Nice scoring depth on three lines. A fourth line with an identity and an e promising goaltending? Is this a dream?

  16. Jmac24mats13

I’d personally try Domi again at center to give Tavares that 3rd line center in between Pacioretty who he looked good with and Robertson who looked good with Max as well for some extra speed and scoring.
    Knies-Matthews-Marner
    McMann-Domi-Nylander
    Pacioretty-Tavares-Robertson
    Lorentz-Kampf-Reaves

  17. GoldenRichard93

Even though we lost Bertuzzi, the 2024 roster looks way better than last season.

  18. Low_Singer_4078

Man I wish they put Domi with Matthews and Marner and knies on the second line .

  19. Major-Discount5011

Nicky Bobby looking at 30 goals this year.

  20. RudyCarmine

Holmberg and Robertson can make a couple million off this line, super excited to see how they go

  21. So the Nylander at center experiment didn’t even last into the season? Haha, so much for giving it a longer try.

  22. matnerlander

Pulling for Robertson big time. As a fan of Kadri who bubbled a few years before being on the permanent roster I want him to succeed and find his place here very badly.

  23. cobycheese31

The 2nd D line should be good. It has 3 players

  24. clapperssailing

We need some heavy centers in the lower ranks

  25. WaltzinCan

I think we’re slightly better overall, or is that just wishful thinking? If we still had Ryan O’Reilly plus a consistent goaltender, then we’d be favourites for sure.

  27. I’m really nervous with that 3rd line. It feels like an insane amount of cap mismanagement that Treliving seemingly got through the offseason thinking one of Domi or Nylander was going to be a center. Domi proved to us all year that he could slide over and help a bit but that he wasn’t a center. And Nylander is an elite scoring winger and I don’t understand why he keeps trying to move him to center.

This Liljegren thing is really bothering me. Cap space is SO crucial. What kind of offer were they waiting for on Liljegren in a trade? If they thought he was their 8th or 9th best dman, they should have non-tendered him. Or traded him at the draft for a couple of late round picks. Now, the 3.75 they spent on Domi (who I like, but they don’t need) can be up to 6.75 to overpay a center. Chandler Stephenson obviously had a humongous contract, but Teuvo Teravainen, Alex Wennberg, and Sean Monahan all signed for less than that number. Just the different look of this lineup with an actual center in it is so drastic.

People have been talking about how Tavares should already have moved to the wing. Nylander and Domi are both wingers. Look at the roster again, it’s Matthews, 2 4th line centers, and 11 wingers! Maybe Lorentz and Dewar you can also count as 4Cs, so now it’s Matthews, 4 4Cs, and 9 wingers. If they had turned the Domi and Liljegren money into Teuvo Teravainen for example, a 2nd line of McMann, Teravainen, and Nylander with a 3rd line of Robertson, Tavares and Pacioretty, makes a million times more sense.

  28. Mighty_Moose_Archer

why does our second D line have 3 players?

    /s

  29. bramptonjerry

biggest upgrade is no more Samsonov, that was painful

  30. One of my men’s league tournament teams essentially « ran it back » after getting smoked last year. We added one stud D man and brought a different goalie. Went from getting shut out all weekend to winning the tournament. Sometines 1-2 new pieces are all you need.
