Evan Rawal article is not paywalled (you may click out of the popup) for those who would like to read.

« What are you going to do when the games matter?

That’s the mentality of the Avalanche front office and veterans ahead of Wednesday’s opener, where Colorado could be dressing as many as five rookies. Those five, Nikolai Kovalenko, Calum Ritchie, Ivan Ivan, Sam Malinski, and Justus Annunen, all earned their spots, but performing well in the preseason is one thing. Performing when the games mean something is a whole different ballgame.

    “We’ll see,” Nathan MacKinnon said.

“Preseason is preseason, right? We all know the level is going to get jacked up significantly here,” Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland said.

Colorado’s general manager doesn’t want his team to “wait for the cavalry,” as he put it. He wants them ready to go on day one, and on day one, his team looks awfully green. »

With as many high-paid vets as we have eating the cap (and that’s a good thing! Means you have awesome players) we will have to rely on younger, cheaper talent contributing. Hopefully all of these guys step up and seize the moment.

    Super talented players.

This season has a very high ceiling, but also a lower floor than recent years.

So much variance accounting for young players, Nichuskin situation, Landeskog situation, and the goaltending situation.

I love it honestly, even if it starts out rocky. If even one of these guys can get it rolling then we could be a deadly team when the Cavalry arrive.

yeah we need to start thinking about the Future I think When Mack, Rantenten, and Landy Retire we will have our Franchise Goalie hopefully Makar will still be with us.

  6. Pens and Hawks kept their windows open for a long time thanks to good drafting.
