I really didn’t want to be the Debbie Downer but seeing stupidity like this is too much.
Yes, the Rangers destroyed the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Yes, they played excellently after a rough first ten minutes, although that’s understandable given it’s the first game of the season and it’s the Penguins home opener. It was guaranteed that the Penguins would come out flying. The Rangers weathered the storm and then took the game over.
All of this is accurate. What’s not accurate? Acting like this is the same Penguins of 10 years ago. This is a team in the midst of the final seasons of their legends. They’re not dumping Crosby, Malkin, or Letang to rebuild so they’re riding out their contracts in mediocrity. Pretending that these Penguins are still relevant is stupid.
To their credit the Rangers did what they’re supposed to do when up against bottom feeders – they went out and destroyed them. Acting like this was a major feat is disingenuous. We’re all happy to beat up on the Penguins but let’s not act like they’re still the Penguins of old.
I mean it was a dominant performance against a weaker team, but messages don’t get sent after just one game… Let’s see how it goes against Utah on Saturday, Toronto the following Saturday, and then Florida on the 24th.

We beat up on the Minnesota Wild to start the season in 22-23 and they got bounced by Akira Schmid later that year. Beat up again on buffalo to start last year and again couldn’t get it done.
Awesome win last night, but I’m not moved until they’re doing this in the playoffs (if they even get there)
