  1. Dach has been…. yikes

Need more from the top line, especially Slaf

Lane: a bright star in the dark sky

Defence is still running on vibes and it’s not working lol

  2. Beefiest_bison

Game was actually closer at 5v5 than the Toronto game, need the top 2 Lines to get it together though.

So far the Habs have 4 scoring chances for and 35 against with Suzuki on the ice at 5v5 and 8 for 18 against with Dach.

  3. blondehairginger

Find someone who loves you as much as Matheson loves shooting into traffic.

  4. willard287

Primeau was terribly shaky and our first 2 lines looked lost. Hopefully they bounce back against Ottawa

  5. flashmethod

I think we’ll see Hutson on PP1 sooner rather than later. I’m happy to see 4 goals tonight!

  6. BigBoy990

Does anyone feel Matheson is feeling the pressure cause of Hutson and his play is even more volatile than usual?

Also with Monty we probably win that game.

  7. BillyShears19

Welp, wasn’t pretty but at least the fought back. Saturday should be fun

  8. ctvdevine

Andersen played pretty well! Happy to see some Gallygoals, powerplay gets one and felt dangerous at times.

Slaf and Nick felt off tonight, things happen, unto the next

  9. RoosterVking

    1st line 😴😴😴😴

    Matheson 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

    Primeau 🙈🙈🙈🙈

  10. Sportsguy1223

Actually hilarious they went back to Anderson on the top line. Hasn’t worked in three years but sure send em back out

    *BAD*

    – The one thing beyond the goaltending from the game tonight is the defensive zone coverage. Noticed it last night as well but it seems like everybody is basically collapsing back and then that leaves open shots for the other team. Moreover, allows for tips and general chaos etc. Too early to say but if that’s the tactics I hate it.

    – I need some more from Nick Suzuki so far in this early season. Hasn’t been up to speed and seems to be constantly off balance in a way. Hoping he gets a big game going on Saturday.

    – The d zone coverage can be bad and the goalie can also be not up to par. This was the case tonight with Primeau. I think generally people are tough on him because he’s had some good games, but for me, and others, those games are too uncommon for this league. He has a small leash for me going forward.

    – refs had a game….

    – Dach hasn’t been bad. Actually pretty good but with the puck he is a bit rusty.

    – Top 6 in general is a bit invisible at times.

    – Matheson find a freaking shooting lane my man.

    *GOOD*

    – Hutson was excellent again. The footspeed and how he can re-act to decisions at his own pace is incredible.

    – Caufield continues the push to 40.

    – This game was always going to be very very very difficult to get a result. Already an emotional game against a rival yesterday then you travel away to another rival having their home opener after a tough loss without your starter in (dare I say a goalie in general)

    – Anderson very lively throughout the game. Not just on the Pk and not just cuz of the goal. Good start.

    – Gallagoal (x2) I want him to park his ass in front of the net and not move it all year.

    – Loved the fight in the third

  12. HabitApprehensive889

I thought at the end of last year CP had found it…only one game, but he looked scared, super soft goals, no idea where the puck is on almost every rebound.

    I am nervous

  13. Caufield and Gally leading in scoring after 2 games.

    Just as we all predicted.

  14. Booyacaja

As they say in French, c’était brouillon en osti lol

  15. Minato_is_God

Game was bad, top 6 was bad, used to it after going like 1 for 12 on the second half of back-to-backs last year.

On to the next one, not that worried about Suzuki and Dach, they’ll get going.

  16. CocoKing02

You know, our third was actually quite good, our second period is what sinked us badly. Primeau was rough, Suzuki was rough, Dach was rough and Slaf was rough. For the 3 forwards I think its just rust that they need to work off, Primeau holy shit though some of the goals were brutal. Defensively our system isnt good for the team we need to try something else. Replace Matheson with Hutson on pp1 i think we will have something going there imo.

  17. RicketyPig

Outcome obviously not ideal but I’ve been impressed with Anderson these first 2 games, really happy to see him get a goal early on in the season.

  18. Not worried at all for Dach. He gets a few games to shake the rust off.

First line has to figure shit out.

    And the faceoffs my god…

  19. Quebecitude

J’adore Slaf mais je le trouve tellement passif parfois.

  20. Mathesson was awesome keeping pucks in the zone. Not great deciding when to shoot. Slaf and Zuk feel rusty and need to shake it off. Not the best tending of the goal

  21. Habsfan_1984

Wasn’t pretty at times that’s for sure but hey it’s on the second game of the season. I will say that Boston is going to be a tough team to play against, they’re massive and play a tough game. I don’t think we were prepared for that type of game tonight. I will say that we need to find a way to execute the passes better than we have.

  22. SJRealtor27

What’s really frustrating is that even tho we were not supposed to win this one, surprisingly we had a chance too but Primeau and Matheson completely killed our momentum multiple times this game. Not too mad tho, I feel like we still did good for a back to back game at the Bruins barn. Go Habs go !

  23. Frectozhae

Weird game overall, felt much worse than the score looks.

    – Primeau sucked. He sucked in preseason, and he sucked tonight. Let’s see how he bounces back.

    – Matheson has not been good at all this season. He usually shines in transition, carrying the puck with speed, and he hasn’t done it once yet. Maybe he’s overused, but I would really consider reducing his minutes a lot.

    – Suzuki and Slaf need to wake up. They look barely able to keep up. They are lucky that Caufield has been playing very well, otherwise they’d be getting cooked.

    – Dach had a bad game, but that’s to be expected, he hasn’t played in a while, so Back to backs might be hard on him.

    – Dvorak, if he can’t win faceoff, is a waste of a roster spot.

    – ABB, as much as people like him, is still a weak 5″9 winger who isn’t great defensively. He’s this year’s version of Rem Pitlick. I would play Heineman instead of him, since at least he can hit.

    Some positives tho:

    – Hutson was great, love him with Guhle, such a great pairing.

    – Honestly, Anderson was great. Loved that he got a goal, and was physical all night. When he got on the top line, he was, by far, the better player there.

    – Gallagher and Evans were awesome, especially when they were reunited with Armia. That’s your third line, and I wouldn’t touch it.

    – Thought Kapanen had moments, but was a bit overwhelmed. Still a good showing for him.

  24. douce_abeille

First line will figure it out not worried. Dach still rusty. Hutson is him. PK Andy is a discovery. Matheson loves shin pads. I like him, he makes bonehead plays sometimes but nothing against him. He is what he is but we need to see Hutson on the PP1.

    81-1 is still at reach😃

  25. --JULLZ--

I mean, it’s game 2 of the season. No reason to panic yet. That being said…

    – First line was invisible. Slaf and Suzuki especially need to get it together

    – Dach was rusty and it shows. Same for him

    – Matheson is a frustrating player, and unfortunately he is what he is

    – Hutson and Guhle were great I thought, only thing is Guhle seems to be outmuscled at times but he’s gonna get there

    – Bottom 6 and Newhook were all good to great

    – Primeau was a disaster

  26. It’s crazy how reactionary people are. Primeau has a really solid 2023/24 season, and then after one shaky game people are proclaiming he’s terrible and has no future. Cripes.

    Hutson, really good.

Nice to see the old guys with bad contracts have decent showings (NHL.com still claims Anderson didn’t score that goal, but whatever). Gallagher, especially, had a good game, even beyond the two goals.

Suzuki and Slafkovsky are not having a fast start to the year.

Conversely, Guhle is hanging in quite well for a guy who had almost no preseason to speak of.

  27. C’est seulement la deuxième partie de la saison et nos meilleurs joueurs n’ont pas eu la chance de disputer beaucoup de matchs préparatoires. C’est normal que ce soit plus brouillon, on relaxe.

  28. DoubleZek

I think Evans deserve some love for what he did the past 2 games. On the PK: solid. In offence: also solid. Mature on ice and on the bench. Calm. Bringing his game to the game. Not the best player, but cleary does his job very well. SO Jake Evans man!

  29. Boston shouldn’t be that proud of this win lol Swayman was cheeks

  30. Boys were getting pushed around that game especially in the second. I know Boston is a big team, but they gotta be stronger than that.

Struble (if healthy) and Pezzetta might have been good picks for this game in hindsight.

Anyways, game was entertaining at least and a few good things to build on. Onto Saturday!

  31. Super disappointed with some key players tonight.

Let’s talk positive, Hutson (2A +2) and Ghule (2A +3) in this mess of a game is simply incredible. 3rd line was a masterclass.

  32. lacoupe25

Anyone who thinks this team is a playoff contender, even with a healthy Laine, is dreaming. Final result should be close to last year’s. Very poor team defensively, up and down the lineup. Primeau was poor tonight, but I expect he’ll find his game.

  33. combined45

People already throwing in the towel for a few bad goals. There were a lot of positives in this game considering Boston is one of the top teams in the entire league.

One thing I will say though is that we have to stop taking so many penalties.

  34. CitronEither3674

Conditioning is real. Give it some time comrades (back to backs are tough).

  35. Ivan_DemiGod

Not fucking ideal but this happens so many fucking times

  36. Alternative-Meet6597

So that’s what, 1-13 in our last 14 vs Boston? This needs to be rectified.

Also gonna rant again about the schedule. MTL vs BOS only 3 times this year is criminal. I get that the owners want every team in every building at least once but rivalries really feel like a thing of the past because of it.

  37. RazzleDazzleSnipe

Kind of expected the loss but happy with the push in the third.

Nice to see gally pot a couple

Would like to see the boys shoot more especially on the powerplay just not matheson type shots.

Tough for primeau but the d zone coverage was awful but that 6th goal is just a killer.

Slaf and Suzuki need to pick up the Pace Dach was out for a whole year I’ll give him a pass for now.

  38. I’m sorry but we should give up on Primeau after all these years he has been with us. He does not belong in the NHL. Bring Dobeš up and waive Primeau.

  39. Ivan_DemiGod

We got justin barron for lehkonen

    God take me now

  40. Cole and 2 zombies

Dach Rusty, Newhook I have not been a fan since preseason, Armia is the best player on that line so far

Dvo needs to be better on the Faceoff that’s like his only job, rest of the line good

    4th line good

Primeau Not NHL Ready if ever

    Ghule Hutson very good

The rest of the D very bad

  41. fingledeebee

Many of the Habs tactics are confounding.

They are very passive on the PK, with a super collapsed box and minimal pressure when the opponents are gaining the zone.

Their even strength defence coverage is very very prone to losing their men. Guys are always scrambling.

Canadien zone entries are always sloppy. Too reliant on giving the puck to a guy with speed and hoping he can beat the wall of defenders.

The power play is set up with minimal shooting threats. There is rarely a man clearly in a trigger spot.

  42. bloodrider1914

Well, Monty is without a doubt the starter for the season barring injury
