Gutsy win, even if it wasn’t pretty. Few guys on the team need to wake up, and when they do they can win with a little more finesse.
Looked like the same old Devils for a hot minute but turned it around and showed that they are anything but. Nice W
That was (mostly) dope
Cotter trade paying in dividends
Once our top lines get it going we’re going to be an absolute wagon.

Great defense after the third 3rd goal. Loving what I am seeing so far.
Let’s go Devils! That 3rd line are a bunch of studs out there!!!
Solid team win. Lfg.
“Character Building” win there. If Jack and Bratt start flowing and they can minimize the lethargic night occurrences, this is going to be a nasty team.
I’ll take a win, but besides the bottom lines looking great, not too many positives I’m taking from this one. We’re in game four against a team taking the ice for the first time this year, this should have been a gimme. I’m not worried about him, but another rough game for Jack
😈😈😈😈😈 let’s go devils!!!!
I’m now 4-0 when at a wedding ha!
These are the types of wins the team hasn’t had in the past few years. We would either win by dominating all game, or lose. Very little in between. Did they play their greatest tonight? No. But they ground out a win with their depth and beat a team they are supposed to beat. And they did it the hard way by playing strong and sacrificing the body.
That’s what great teams do.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence the one game they looked dominant in from start to finish is the one game Jack showed up for. This team will become great again when he is back. Until then it’s probably going to be a lot of tight scary games like today.
We beat Washington at home on their season opener. Was it perfect? Did our stars click? Don’t matter. Two points. 3-1 keep it rolling.
Great game, great effort, great division road win. Three wins out of first four but you wouldn’t know it reading the game thread comments lol.
Just wait until the top lines start producing. It’s gonna be a fun season.
I feel like Kovie has earned a spot in one of the pairings. I feel like when we get Pesce and Luke back, we send down Nemec and Casey to get some AHL reps and let’s see if Kovie can take the workload. I love how he defends his team mates and he’s physical. Basically like what we wished Bahl was going to be.
Great win! We seem to struggle against the caps in recent years so I’m happy to get the dub tonight! Need to figure out the PP. Don’t want to harp too much on it because we are only 4 games in but hopefully that improves! Nonetheless great win and 3-1 is a good start!
Good win. Felt like we were in control for the vast majority of that game. Lots of great defense and picking off pucks and keeping possession. The bottom 6 is money, 3rd line especially. Keep that as is. 4 games in and I’m already thinking Cotter might be the heist of the offseason lol.
Top 6 though needs work. Guys just aren’t clicking with each other. I think swap Timo and Mercer or maybe Jack and Nico. but changes need to be made there. Also got to work on sloppy starts to periods, we dominated periods 2 and 3 but the first couple of minutes we just make some lazy decisions that cost us.
Other than that, 6 points in 4 games. Me like. Fuck the Caps. I hate playing those goons.
Hopefully Pesce can get back soon. Pretty sure Casey and Nemec got almost no ice time in the third. Having to go with only 4 D in close games would be rather taxing long term…
Great: Cotter line
Good: Defense, amazing turnaround from the Toronto game aside from a few costly mistakes
Bad: Turnovers by the top line, especially from Jack
If this exact game was played last season we likely lose 5-4…..Markstrom (a few sketchy rebounds aside) is doing a good job of not taking us out of games and making a few key saves we have not been getting in recent years
They lose this game last year 10/10 times. Gutsy win but the top 6 needs to get going man.
Reading these comments make me laugh. No shit our top lines need to play better and they will. This is what having actual depth looks like. You don’t need your top players to carry you every single night. We’re 4 games in deep breaths lol
2 big points! I am one who did not hate the Cotter trade, my son was pissed about it and I said, give him a chance. I was right of course! Our new guys were great in this game and our OGs played like.. they were playing the Washington Capitals. I am a little concerned that the big guys are not scoring. I do think that Jack/Timo/Bratt needs to be tweaked. I get where people are annoyed about Jack’s play in terms of defensive responsibility, but as far as production, he just came off a major surgery and he might not look like himself for a while. Same for Dougie who isn’t producing points either. Overall it was a big win, this month is a brute and they need all the points. Last I checked the Utah’s had the Rangers in OT tied at FIVE so should be an interesting game on Monday.
Edit: Utah beat the Rangers 6-5.. holy.
A devils win and a rangers lose on the same night!!!!
This game is for all you doomers complaining about how the Caps are some sort of boogeyman still for the Devils, as if they didn’t go 3-1 on them two years ago and got a win along with a couple comebacks that fell just short last year.
This is like the Blue Jackets no longer becoming a threat too, those teams are past their prime now while the Devils continue to climb upwards, much like our boy Cotter McDavid aka Middle-6 Cotter aka the one true savior of the 24-25 season. That line with Noesen and Haula was cash money against a heavier Caps squad tonight 💪
Power play needs some serious help, jacks line needs to get going. Some of the annoying things from last year still lingering.
Cottermcfuckingdavid.
Utah just haaaad to let Rags get a point
94 more points to go!
Idk if this is preemptive to talk about but as have Utah next and they’ve been doing well. I think that’ll be an interesting test for us
Two Points from a Divisional Opponent!:
* so it wasn’t like the prettiest game we’ve ever played, but two points is two points to me!
* love to play spoiler for a team’s home opener!
* depth scoring!
* Paul Cotter for the Hart.
* although our PK was scored on tonight, it still remains a highlight overall.
* fucking love Seamus Casey. love him.
* its so fucking good to have Stefan Noesen back and its so good to see Erik Haula find his stride.
* a third line! a third line!
* Ondrej Palat is fourth liner. sigh. god its so frustrating watching him play. he’ll have some things where I’m like okay I see you hustling and then he’ll just like not do a thing.
* yeah the stars didn’t have a showy night tonight, but there were definitely little things here and there that were good to see by our core four of Timo, Nico, Jack, and Bratter. especially that last play by Nico to get the puck to Dawson. and Timo’s play to get that Casey goal.
* which by the way! congrats to the DAWG for 250 games and getting the goal to seal it!
* not worried about Jack. he had a real slow start in the 22-23 season. he’ll find his game and we’ll all be singing his praises in no time.
* Kovy is fucking amazing. God, the way this team is playing for each other is making me so senti. Loved how he stood up for Timo.
* Fuck the Caps man. Fuck ’em.
* Siegs and Kovy really looking good together. Gonna be a conundrum when both Pesce and Luke come back.
* good to see Dougie using his body and getting really involved in play, want to get that Dougie Bomb back ASAP tho.
* want Marky to be WAY better about his rebound control
* and want us to be SO much better about our ability to get the puck out of our zone cleanly.
* can’t be having these defensive breakdowns multiple times in a game. clean that up.
* also wanna shout out our line changes this season thus far. this team last year was horrible at line changes and horrible at too many men penalties. so far this season, we’ve been so much better about when we do a line change and how we do it and there have been some smart moves that have led to goals. love to see it.
starting the season 3-1-0 is so much better than starting the season 2-2-0.
a tough back to back coming up with Utah and Carolina, so lets buckle down folks!
wins a win, theres stuff we need to clean up and our top 6 isnt even doing the heavy lifting right now.
3-1 to start the season, im damn happy.
Shoutout to the six people who’s first move after we won that was messaging me to ask about Nicos double dinner. He’s got it I promise
Hughes line needs work, but man that 3rd line with Cotter looks awesome
Also, can we please have some defense?
Nice to win even when we play pretty poorly
Nemec looks like he’s still mentally in the preseason. That injury really set him back. That pairing is a definite weak point in the D Zone.
Paul Cotter is a wrecking ball and brings real energy to the lineup. I love what Noesen brings too, he’s really improved since his last stint in Red and Black.
The Leafs are pretty stacked and this Caps team has some sneaky depth tbf but Markström hasn’t looked good for the last two games and that worries me a little.. His rebound control combined with our defense still meshing together is going to lead to more goals if it doesn’t improve.
I think Luke is going to look a bit rough when he gets back but I think Pesce is going to be a huge addition once he gets into the lineup.
The big time forwards need to wake up but it’s early and the depth is playing great. I’m confident they’ll round into form soon.
Beautiful win against an underrated opponent who typically gives us fits. You can see how much of a difference our physical presence makes in games like these. From Hamilton and Hischier throwing actual checks here and there, to the aggressive forecheckers, to just having a fighting deterrent on the ice at nearly all times – this was not the game Washington wanted to get out of their extracurriculars. Kovacevic continues to impress, Nemec a little better tonight, Jack a little better tonight, just 78 more to go!
Time to mix up the top 6. Nico and Jack both need to get going.
Paul Cotter is slowly but surely filling that Blake Coleman hole that this team has had since we traded him.
Good overall, not great, much better than the Leafs game, but there’s still some work to do. Overall very happy with the progression though, big test on this next back to back.
Absolutely loving the Siegs redemption arc.
Bratt needs to be playing with Nico and Tatar
Cotter on pace for 82
Hughes and bratt need to be split up. Put Nico with Meir bratt
Keep cotter and noesen together
