It's only 4 games into the season, but this team looks so much better than last years squad. Berube, solid additions on defense, and quality goaltending have made a world of a difference so far.
David riitch is terrible. Its also very promising that toronto has not given up more than 2 goals in each of their games.. if memory serves.

The point you made about the messaging being absorbed by the players from Berube and Keefe is so true. A small, pot-bellied guy screaming behind the bench a lot of the guys just tune him out after a while. A massive former tough guy in the league swearing at the guys during a timeout, the players actually absorb what he’s telling them because they’re so scared of him/respect him so much.

Lillypad needs to play 20 mins a night on a crap team. I think he has ability to be a decent defenseman. His issue is between the ears. He needs to play. He's afraid to make a mistake out there, so he'll never be the player he can be playing on this team.

The leafs scouts have absolutely dropped the ball drafting defencemen, Reilly is literally the only defencemen they drafted and developed who actually did anything for the leafs in over a decade ,with Lilljigrin well out of the lineup this put the nail on it

Kings are brutal defensively, it's a shock. They've been one of the best defensive teams in the NHL for years. The decision to change the system is really not working at all, but it's still early I guess. They refuse to get a decent goalie, always going for the retreads well past their prime. Leafs PP finally got some goals, so hopefully this shuts everyone up for awhile. Stolarz is playing extremely well. His style is similar to Woll's. Kudos to McMann for a strong game.

Defense and goaltending have been a good surprise so far into the season and the offensive is getting chances that are finally going in. Would like to see the power play keep improving.
It's early but it actually feels like a real time for the first time. We have real genuine new players as an expanded core in Tanev, OEL, Lorentz, Domi & Knies back.. an actual team, not 4-5 guys and the plug-ins.

Listening to people who watch Liljegren take his man all night and clear the puck better than most people remains me that there are the same people who said Marner, Kessel, Trevor Moore, Carter Verheghe, Sean Durzy, and many others couldn't play. I was pissed at the exact same thing with lower bowl clearing out with 5 min left. The corporate fan base there bugs me!!!! I would kill for lower bowl seats! I'd be there from door opener to the ushers Kickin me out
For me, the overarching thing was Berube calling a timeout in the third period to chew out the team in public, with Toronto up 5 goals, then giving away 2. FINALLY!!! Unaccountability stops here!!! We are NOT going for this f*cking drama where the Leafs either squeak out a victory they don't deserve, or see an embarrassing loss after a 5-0 lead.
THAT BULLSH*T is NOT what fans pay for, and we're tired of the damn excuses! It's hopefully over, now and as long as Berube cracks the damn whip. Unacceptable, and will no longer be tolerated by him…and so, the fan base will also ease up a bit on the team.
I am not a Marner or Matthews hater. I believe the team wants to win more than any of us popcorn-throwing fans. And I believe a moment like that was what they needed to get their heads on straight, to get out of their funk and play to the calibre we know they can. NO WAY Sheldon Keefe could pull that off. But when you don't have accountability at the bench, us popcorn-throwing fans (and very occasionally, the media) end up being the ONLY ONES who call out bullsh*t as they see it. Thank God we no longer have to.
