  1. No. They are just adjusting to losing 5 players and a lot of speed. They are not as talented a team as last year, so they have to adjust by vastly improving their 2 way team play, which they are doing. It's a long year and additions will be made. The only thing don't have any faith in the Stu Skinner. Pickard is a great backup, and he's better then Skinner as I said at the start of last year. Knob is a fool if he doesn't use Pickard more then he did last year.

  2. You are spot on. Living in Milwaukee Wisconsin I am a Green Bay Packer fan. In 1995 the Packers got many great new players who came to GB to play with Brett Favre and to win a championship. In 1996 they won the Super Bowl. Talent, Desire and Intention can work. Love the work you do on your channel!

  3. Its too bad Holloway and broberg didnt want to stay.

But in the cycles and set play, their playing speed is good.

A good puck moving defenseman would help.

We'll see what happens by deadline, maybe Noah Philp can step up this year. Matt Savoie too or next year at least.

  4. I'm a little miffed that it now costs money to listen to Oilers Now. At least for me. We're lucky to have the next best commentary on the Oilers free on YT and that's Dolynny TV (IMO). I obviously agree with about everything you say, and there's lots of food for thought. As many are, I'm transplanted from Edm to Flames City. I'll die an Oilers fan and I wear the colors proud. Great job, Ty 👍

  5. Excellent breakdown. I also believe! Perry’s showings promise that they all can do it. I think this is going to be a great season.

  6. Too old and too slow? Last regular-season the Ottawa Sens had just 3 and 1 respective non-goalie skaters and goalies, out of 31 and 3 who had gotten to play games, no younger than 30 even by the moment the final whistle had blown on their final game of that season (likely sometime between 8 and 9 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time on 16 April, with that game having taken place at TD Garden, home of the Bruins). Goalie Joonas Korpisalo, under 2 weeks later, we celebrate his 30th birthday, taking to 5 the number of players on the Sens roster no younger than 30, still out of over 30 players.

It's tempting to say that proportionately the Oilers have more players in their thirties than any of the remaining Canadian teams, and that somehow that means that ultimately a lack of stamina will mean injuries that ravage the roster. Yet the Avs, even with multiple injured players, have, according to Puckpedia, just 5 of 28 players on their NHL roster under the age of 30, but even with relative youth only have one win this regular season, that wind was very slim on Friday MDT at 3-2 in OT over the Anaheim Ducks.

The Sens last regular season came nowhere close to a playoff spot and, even with just seven of 23 players in their thirties or forties, also according to Puckpedia, on their NHL roster, have yet to this season win consecutive non-preseason games. Furthermore, their last three games have featured at least 3 goals allowed, 2 of them losses (respective 4-1 and 3-1 away and home ones last weekend and this Thursday MDT to the Habs and Devils). Last regular-season the Sens put up a rather putrid 1-14-1-0 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record in Western Conference arenas, when compared to, just up to including January, a far more impressive 5-5-0-0 record put up by the Oilers in Eastern Conference arenas.

The Oilers later this month will be going on a road trip the first two of whose stops will be respective games against the Red Wings and Blue Jackets before ending the month with a game against the Preds at Bridgestone Arena while November will feature a trip out to Eastern Canada, with 2, 4 and 5 respective games in January, February and March in Eastern Conference arenas. The Sens will be playing more of their games in Western Conference Arenas sooner this season, with 3, 2, 7, 2, 1 and 1 respective such games in October, November, December, January, February and March.

I count this season, among Canadian NHL teams, the Flames and Habs as unlikely to see playoff action but the others for which the minimum is making the postseason. Yes it's possible none will qualify for the Stanley Cup final but even those that end up coming nowhere close to an SCF will still have to play 16 games in arenas of the conferences in which they are not based. I see 10 as the minimum number of points the Oilers will need to get from those games in Eastern Conference arenas for them to have a chance to see playoff action although last regular-season they would end up with 15 such points in such opposing conference arenas.

  7. if this team was based in the US, they would be heralded as next to God-like in every way, but in a Canadian market, we scrutinize every move and expect and demand that they win every game 10-0. Let's appreciate a great team

  8. Don't get me wrong, I'd like some youth and speed too and yes, there are a few players that maybe would be nice to have here but it will happen when it happens. I support to the team. Take care all.

  9. From what I’ve seen thus far this season, the lack of speed has been the primary thing that has appeared clear to me.

  10. Shouldn't have gotten rid of Holloway and Broberg, they look amazing in St Louis, massive mistake.
