I was at the game. Proud that the Devils fought back to tie the game. Nico doing captain things. I really wanted him to get a hat trick. OT that was a horrible transition that caught Siegenthaler in a 2 on 1.
Someone is going to have to say it. Jack Hughes is off this year, saw him give up skating on that shorthanded 2 on 1 Ottawa had in second period. Tonight he’s playing “defensive” hockey with one hand on stick, guy gets away from him as he falls at the blue line, leads to goal. He and Bratt were good for 3 goals against tonight, they are a liability, and you can’t say it’s worth it when they scored 0 and gave up 3. It’s quickly becoming the elephant in the room.
Then Keefe puts together that Hischier line that grinds out two goals in 10 seconds, the next shift he breaks the line up. I don’t understand that. Maybe I’m too old school where lines were lines and chemistry wasn’t by the shift.

So, when the team sucked last year and every goalie was leaking, only Vitek was garbage. This year when the team is good and only Markstrom is leaking he is somehow still good and it is not his fault 😂😂😂. Ok😅
Def not a great game, but getting a point after being down by 2 twice in a game is something. Jack and Bratt def had a rough outing, so did Marky, but some of the turnovers and breakdowns in front of Marky were bad. Probably time to break up jack and bratt though and see what can get those guys fully going. It's 1 game, not a huge deal, bad games are going to happen.

Ace, I have a slightly different take away. Yes, it was disappointing to lose this one, however, it answers the question that the team can run and gun without the addition of a top 6 forward. That was something I was pretty concerned with heading into the season. Also, I don't believe last years team would have had the tenacity or "edgieness" to get a point in last nights game. If you told me the team would be without two key defensemen and would go 5-2-1 to start, I would sign up for that every time. Keefe is aware and making adjustments, let's see how we look on Tuesday.
