  1. So a couple seasons ago Liljgren had his value at its highest They probably could have got a 2nd for him. But they ended up moving Sandin instead to get the 1st.
This to me is average and a tad bit more then i thought they would get for him. TBH the 6th round pick really means nothing. Those picks rarely pan out. and Matt Benning is really a nothing piece as well 1.25M hes going to be burried in the minors. so really its a 3rd round pick for liljgren. which is probably what hes worth tbh. hes actually a pretty goodoffensive defenceman , if he gets sheltered a bit defensiely and plays some PP time I could see him doing very well for SJ

  2. Benning likely won't play much. The draft picks are good to get. Hope this does not come back to bite them in the ass. Trading Sandin was a definite mistake.

  3. Maybe they flip him to Edmonton (Benning). He's an Edmonton boy, and the Oilers would love a right shoot depth guy.

  4. picking up a locker room cancer is a master class, just goes to show how delusional maple leaf fans really are, a master class trade, would be pierre luc dubois for three positional players, thats a master class trade, thus was just an unloading of a decent talent for 2 late rd picks, i think a 3rd rder has a less then 15% chance to turn into a NHL calibre player of minimum minutes, and a 6th rder is a shot in the dark prayer for a chance to become a regular NHLer, round of applause for this "master class" trade XD

  5. Lily has talent, but for reasons unknown, appeared to repeatedly have his confidence shaken through injury or other events. Toronto is a tough place for a guy with confidence issues, so it would not surprise me if he finds his game in San Jose. He wasn't a Berube guy, so getting what will likely be a high 3rd rounder, plus a 6th & Benning is as good a deal as Tree was likely to get. Good luck to Lily in San Jose, save vs Toronto. Some people seem to have issues with Timmins, but he doesn't lack for confidence & Chief seems to like him. Good deal for both clubs.

  6. Evidently I am mistaken. the 3rd rounder is either Edmonton's or Colorado's, which ever one falls earlier, so NOT a high 3rd round pick after all. Too bad, but still a good trade for both teams. Lily wasn't going to play for Berube barring a few injuries, so time to move on regardless.

  7. Amazing news For both teams and the extra picks give a little more value for future trades and deadline deals. LOVE IT.

  8. At least we shouldn’t have to worry about him leaving and pushing the sharks over the edge and winning the cup.

  9. I would not call this trade a steal but a necessary deal they new they could make when they signed him to 3 mil per year.

Asset management he is a legitimate NHL defenseman and a 1st round pick.

Cap management its a very good deal which both Treliving and Pridem should be commended.

Treliving is doing a very good job and filling many holes for this year and the future.

  10. The Leaf's need the picks because their scouts have found so many talents across the globe. Question now is if Matt Benning can help the Leaf's?

  11. Timmy another 1st rounder for the leafs didn't pan out thats 2 first rounder are gone for the leafs sandin ,timmy will they got good return for sandin ,cowen

  12. Love that they cleared cap. And if they waive Benning and he clears, all of his salary is buried except for 100k. That means the leafs clear out almost the full 3mil cap hit. Great job Tre!

  13. A depth dman plus a pick with about a 10% chance of getting an NHLer and a pick with a less than 5% chance for a guy who will play in the NHL for years to come. The only good thing is cap space but here we are talking like this is the most one sided trade ever. Lol

  14. Great trade for both sides. San Jose gets a serviceable right-shot d-man who can move the puck really well. Toronto frees up cap space, gets two draft picks, and a serviceable d-man who's on a $1.25M contract.

  15. It should be noted though…. Benning was being benched and healthy scratched lots this season on the Sharks. Sharks fans are thrilled to have him gone as he was struggling to be apart of the Top-6 D-men there.

  16. It’s not always what we got it’s what we released ie cap space and allows better players to come in.

  17. Liljegren was a mostly solid, uneventful type of D. Neither an offensive force or a defensive shutdown specialist, he would be a good 3rd line D for many NHL teams

  18. Lmao I wouldn't call it a haul, but yeah good work Tre. I still remember Lily getting drafted and I was just ecstatic he fell to the leafs, he was a guy I was hoping for that entire year (when were bad in the mid 2010s, I was a draft nerd) and he was just a guy I really thought would change the fabric of the team and be a core piece. Alas, no, but he still has that potential imo. Some defenceman are extremely late bloomers, and I hope he has a Gustav Forsling type of arc. If only he had some snarl man, what could have been.

  19. A transaction where everybody wins: Leafs: get cap space, a depth player + draft picks for an un-used player. Sharks: get a puck moving top pair defenseman and potential powerplay qb. Benning: gets a shot to play in the playoffs. Liljegren: gets to play in a role that is much more suited for his talents on a rebuilding team where he can rebuild his confidence with tons of minutes on the ice.

  20. The only way this team really changes it's identity is if they make a major trade by convincing 1 of the so called big boy players to agree to move there no move clause and get a return back in a deal no trade clauses screw this league and every other league on making major trades

  21. Tre will need to decide who they'll bring back first either Dewar or Hackanpaa, unless Tre has another move coming

  22. Tre has many options here, he could trade Benning, waive him or if need be they could move Myers, maybe even Timmins, but there's Kampf, Jankrok, let's not forget about Robertson. Something still has to give if Tre wants to activate both of Dewar and Hakanpaa.
