@Ligue nationale de hockey

Panthers final run in 1996 is my immediate association

I always think of him as a Ranger. I remember the season he beat out the Flyers Bob Froese for the Vezina trophy. I was so pissed. It was the year after Pelle died and my heart wanted Froese to keep the Vezina in Philly.

His helmet with the Panthers is one of my favorites of all time.

  4. Only-Worldliness2364

    Rangers, NHL 94 on Sega

Being that hockey was so new in Florida in the early 90s, for me it’s his time with the Cats. Mellanby, the rat, and Vanbriesbrouck is what I remember. That mask tho…

Edit: typo I meant mask not makes

Im 22 and I have no idea who this is unfortunately. Is that a me thing or am I just too young?

  7. I remember him primarily as a Flyer just because I remember liking his kit and mask a lot.

Edit: I should also say because his early years in the league were when I was young.

Panthers is the team I think of first, but also with Devils (devils fan here)

  9. James_Fantastic

As a rangers fan I deeply respect bieser but still associate him with the Panthers lol

Always liked Beezer. Back when goalies didn’t just slide around in the butterfly all game… the good old days.

  11. GraciousGrackle

The Beezer, the Panthers, and Uwe Krupp.

  12. AceConspirator

Panthers for sure, their run to the Finals was legendary. But respect to the Rangers in this case.

Honestly had forgotten that he made a stop in Philly.

I went to high school with his niece and nephew in Michigan. Pretty cool family. I remember him as a Panther! I remember his helmet clear as day.

  14. bonerjoe444

NYRs, but then I’ve been a fan for a couple of decades. Excellent goalie replaced by a Great One. I wonder what Sheste will bring to the table this season. He’s been fkn’ amazing last one.

But Beezer was Great with Panthers fer sure.

  15. HockeyAnalynix

Don’t forget he was a Vancouver Canuck too.

  16. Iliketomeow85

Flyers since I was a big fan in the 90s

In that Chris Osgood realm of good but ehhh

  17. ErnDizzy

Red Wings, because I sat beside him in the stands. Nobody in the crowd knew who he was.

  18. TIFUbyResponding

I remember he caused some MAJOR locker room drama when he was on the Islanders. Wanted to control what music was playing in the room, tried to force his religion on others (apparently he’s a devout born again or some shit), etc etc.

  19. EmperorXerro

Beezer beating the ‘86 Flyers still grinds my gears.

  20. LongjumpingAvocado

I was maybe 5 when he was on the Islanders and I loved him as a goalie. Feel like him and Kevin Weekes were awesome but short lived islanders goalies that made be wanna play goalie.

  21. beardedunicornman

He got fired as coach of the greyhounds for calling Trevor Daley the n-word so prolly that

  22. SawgrassSteve

Florida. Not forgotten by anyone who rooted for the Panthers in the mid-90s.

  23. Pirates3178

Panthers and Rangers are my first thoughts

  24. Pray4Snow2112

When they defeated that insanely talented 66/68 pens team on the way to lose to an insanely talented Avs team, I distinctly remember it was due primarily to a goal going off of a calf of a pens player, who I believe was petr nedved but could be wrong, and in game 7. That was my first sports heartbreak, even though my dad claims the buccos had a chance with bonds in 92 against the braves. Anyway that series against the Florida panthers as a pens fan with 66/68 absolutely lighting up the scoreboard that year still haunts me! Makes me think pens would’ve lost either way given the Avs swept John Beezer but who knows

  25. icantthinkofaname940

    A Vancouver Canucks legend.

  26. NarugaKuruga

    The Vancouver Canucks

Really enjoyed him for that one off-season where he was just here as bait (that got taken by the Panthers, of course) so the Nucks could keep their unprotected backup. That made a huge difference :^)

(It ended up costing the Nucks Doug Lidster, too smh)

  27. that-bro-dad

Panthers. So many kids I knew growing up wanted that mask

  28. TheIncredibleHork

The Rangers is the team I always associate him with. Growing up he was the main goalie I saw in net for until they traded him and went with Mike Richter. My dad used to say Vanbiesbrouck was a cup contending goalie and didn’t think Richter could do it. Sadly, dad passed in January the year that Richter did indeed lift the cup.

  29. oopsImarriedmysister

He was very good. Remember him most from rangers and panthers

  30. SundinMachine

“I used the n-word instead of calling him Trevor”

  31. Sashaband

Rangers, the duo of him and mike richter was deadly
