About equal but I’d say Montreal walked out slightly better. Both made the finals with the other but Montreal got a captain out of it.

I think it’s a win-win because both teams made the finals, but Weber became captain and retired with the Habs so I guess them? But it’s close, people forget how good Subban was for the Preds. He didn’t really fall off until he went to NJ

I mean they each got one solid guy on the tail ends of their careers, and both made an impact for the short time they were there. Not sure if either “won” for sure.

Habs. They get 5 seasons out of him and wouldn’t have made the cup final without their captain. His “Points share” over 5 seasons were higher than Subban’s 3 seasons by 29-21. One strong peak season for both, Weber finishes 6th in Norris voting and the following season it was Subban finishing 3rd.
I’m not sure how to weigh the intangibles and fan impact. I suspect it was all about shaking things up by moving out Subban from Montreal at the time and he was a huge fan fit in Smashville.
The tie breaker for me though is the huge risk that Weber’s contract had, which came with massive recapture risks if he didn’t choose to ride into the sunset on LTIR…. The Habs get a useful player in Dadonov, where as the Predator ultimately got nothing back in the Subban grade to NJ.

Looking back on it now, I’d say both teams pretty much broke even. Being a one for one trade makes it more so, as there are no picks or prospects that would normally bring up future regret.
Both were essential pieces of their respective PP units during their time with their new teams, they both went to a Stanley Cup Final, but lost. And now both teams are without either player.
