That first goal may have turned out differently if the ref had called the holding penalty against the wall just at the breakout from the lightning end.
If Stamkos sees a goal he doesn't like, all he has to do is signal a no goal to the scorekeeper & the folks of Turner Sports will then come up with a reason why the Leafs goal didn't count, which will then be relayed to the refs, who will announce it to the crowd at which time the folks covering the game for SN Canada will try to justify what happened. This wouldn't be a problem if money wasnt a factor for the US television networks. They play a major role influencing the outcomes. Sad!
Very close series, Leafs have nothing to be ashamed about. But recency bias, hmmmm. Lose a 3-1 lead to a much inferior Canadiens team last year, great series but a loss this year and things are looking up. But switch the years and it looks worse. Still, this team will have new players in the bottom 6 and bottom 2 on D, in net, so it'll be anew team again. Top 6 forwards and top 4 D will remain, learing, but is it in their DNA to lose? I'd say no, they aren't the Atlanta Falcons.
