  1. With no major moves in the off season the youth has to make a step up. But you have to let your youth grow, you never know sometimes youth can surprise you.

  2. It all comes down to improvement from their youngsters. They have invested heavily in them and it is not easy to see if they are going to become productive players or not. I don't think their final results are that important. I think it is more about seeing a couple of these guys strive forward. So Mittelstadt, Krebs, Quinn, Asplund, Cozens, Samuelson, Dahlin, Power. I don't see how as a unit that they can figure a way to improve that much unless a couple of them really breakout. They need some of those guys to become solid players and some of them to expose themselves for replacement. You would hope at least one of the forwards demands a spot on the top line and allowing them to spread the riches more and develop two solid lines. Their D is just going to be too weak this year as well. They are trying to use a couple of failed retreads so obviously they have yet to find enough D talent through drafting. But overall, i really cheer for this kind of rebuild it is very exciting to see. But nothing will come of it unless a couple of guys really move forward soon.

  3. Comrie is a big addition since the goalie position was shaky at best last year. The Sabres finished on a good note. They have shown that they could beat every team. I dont mean to be rude, but you look a little tired.

  4. The Sabres certainly made some interesting moves this offseason–I look for them to improve in all areas, but IMHO they are a couple of seasons away from contending for a playoff spot–the key will be how Tage Thompson and the other youngsters progress–none of the players gone from last season were impactful–the new additions are good, no one great but all good and steady players–this team could shock a couple of teams and finish higher than 5th, but, it seems likely that they are still a 5th place team for now.

  5. I hope Peterka and Quinn can be on team, if he’s not in team and Asplund and old man Okposo are on 3rd line the team will miss playoffs again. How can Jack Quinn actually make team? He has Tuch, Ollofsson, Okposo, Hinostrova and other guys ahead of him…Peterka only has to beat out loser Asplund for a spot, Asplund went 45 games in a row zero goals, Peterka was the top two way and PK forward on Amerks and had monster playoffs…If Peterka isn’t on the team I will not watch any games this season. Quinn had a brutal playoffs in AHL, he can start in AHL for a few weeks and prove he can score without Peterka assisting on all his goals. Peterka was best player in camp last year but they picked Me Selke Asplund for his spot. You can’t win a cup playing guys 15-17 minutes a game that can’t score at all at AHL or NHL level.

  6. The Atlantic division seems pretty hard to predict. One or even two of Boston, Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo are making the playoffs.

  7. Peterka is way better than Asplund and Krebs. Faster, two way forward, 2 way means you can score and shut down other lines, Assplund can’t score even in AHL level. I hate that guy. To win a cup you need to be a team that is near top of league in goals, over last 40 years teams that win cups are average of 4th highest scoring team. Playjng losers who can’t score is waste of time.

  8. Dustin Tokarski is gone. He was the 2G, while Dell was the back-up in the AHL. farm team.

  9. Sabres appear to want to use this season as a barometer of their young talent and progress. They need a another good season from Skinner, and 40 games from Comrie in net. Future looks bright long term, but short term, Sabres fans have to remain patient through more growing pains. I see them basically at 75 points again, treading water for the moment, but a good sized upswing is coming. They're definitely a fun team to watch.

  10. I think that the Sabres will probably be towards the bottom of the division and not make the playoffs, but they should be a lot better than last year. If the goaltenders can stay healthy (unlike the last 2 years) and the young players keep developing this will be a decent team. We won't have guys like Butcher, Bjork, Hayden, Jankowski, Dell and Tokarski getting big minutes. They'll be replaced by a full season of Tuch and Krebs, rookies like Peterka, Quinn and Power, and FA signings like Lybuschkin and Comrie. Those should be significant upgrades.

  11. Lil better but they will be at the bottom in scoring. Without scoring it’s hard to win especially with goalies that are more like shooter tutors! Long season ahead but this is nothing new to us.

  12. Sabres off-season moves tells you their giving the young players a chance to impress and develop. Sabres could easily have added a couple of more veterans who probably would perform better this season than our current roster but that would lead to slower development for our young players. Our GM Kevin Adams is trying to do the complete opposite of what Murray did. KA is building a team of players that wants to play for Sabres. I’m very excited for this team but we probably have to wait a couple of years before seeing the best of them.

  13. Looking at the numbers- The Sabres were 2nd in man games lost due to injury last year. If they can be just average in that category would be a gigantic improvement. The addition of Power, Quinn, Peterka, Comrie, Lyubushkin, a full healthy season of Tuch, Mittelstadt and Olofsson will be huge. I expect them to make giant leaps if injuries don’t destroy them.

  14. People love to bash the sabres but things are changing. This team will be a solid team this year. Playoffs? Probably not but this is a test for the youngster's and coaching. Next year some money will be spent. This team is pretty stacked with young talent and hunger. Tage is a stud and Skinny is going to have his best. This year sabres will have respect no longer a punching bag.

  15. I'm surprised by the comments of no major additions. I would call Owen Power a MAJOR addition. Yeah he played the last 8 games last year… 8. That's an addition and a big one. The kid is very very good. With almost no players on the decline (skinner, maybe?) And so many players developing and improving I expect Buffalo to be in the playoff race well into April if they don't actually qualify.
