  1. They are going to score and give up a lot of goals, their power play has got to improve with Johnny Hockey. They will be fun to watch. 80's hockey team. Metro is tougher this season, only Philly is a joke, they will be one of the best #5-7 finishing teams in many years.

  2. A very fair assessment. The Jackets strength will be the offense. It will be interesting to see how the lines shake out. Gaudreau has statistically been the best 5 on 5 player in the league the last 5 years. Sillinger as a rookie last year tallied 16 goals (all at even strength). At some point in time those two almost certainly become linemates. I can't see the Jackets in the playoffs. The right side of the defense would have to come a long way in a short time to even have a chance. The schedule is also a factor as starting on February 26th, the Jackets play 12 of 15 on the road through April 1. That includes a 5 game west coast swing and road stops in Boston, New York rangers, Ottawa, WAshington and Pittsburgh. They still will need to find an elite center going forward. There are numerous interesting centers who will be UFA's the next two years, I expect most to be extended. The list includes Aho, Lindholm, Kopitar, Scheifele, Rheinhart, Matthews, Toews, O'Reilly, Horvat, Larkin and McKinnon. I expect 70 to 80% of those to be retained by their current teams, but a couple could come available as either a free agent signing or a sign and trade. The goal tending will improve if the defense improves. Finally, keep an eye on Boone Jenner. He lost the last 20 games to back issues last season. He says he's fine, but back issues can be hard to overcome, as Columbus fans saw with Ryan Murray. If Jenner's back starts giving him trouble again this year, we will know the situation could be chronic.

  3. The east being such a strong conference will make it difficult for Columbus to make the playoffs vs if they were in the west. Blue Jackets legend Johnny Gaudreau should keep them in the hunt however.

  4. For all the CBJ fans don't listen to the Gudbranson haters. Thanks to THG for Not shitting all over him like so many other creators have done. I watched about a dozen Flames games from last year and the dude is a very good player. Yes he's a stay at home defenceman so nobody should expect much offense from him. He's very good at keeping pucks in the ozone and also clearing pucks from the dzone especially on PK. There's a reason he was on Calgarys #1 PK Unit ranked 5th in the NHL and its not because he "sucks" He's also a solid passer and was very accurate on some stretch passes that I saw. He knows when to pinch and is very quick for being such a big dude. He surprised me with his speed getting back on a few breakaways. This is also the guy Tom Wilson tried to take out, bounced off him onto his ass, got pissed then started a fight, got knocked with a Gudbranson uppercut then was booted from the game. That's stuff that don't show up on the stat sheet. He'll def throw down with anybody but isn't a hot head. Is he worth 4mil AAV? For a team still a few years from the playoffs to a veteran who's 30 still looking for a cup I'd say right now yes. Sorry for the rant just tired of people shitting all over this dude when they didn't watch any tape from last season and just going off of what toxic AF twitter said. He didnt live up to being a 3rd overall pick but from what I saw last year is a very good defenceman who actually plays defense which is what the Jackets desperately need. Last thing we need is another Bean or Boqvist jumping up into the offense just to watch an odd man rush go back the other way for a goal.
    Now I'll STFU
    GO JACKETS!!!

  5. I'm glad you finally brought up Marcenko in a CBJ video! The apprehension about KHL players is reasonable, but the difference with Marchenko is that he already plays an NHL game. As far as I know, a lot of the KHL busts are small skill players that thrive on the bigger ice and struggle to adapt to the NHL's physicality, which isn't the case with Marchenko. He knows how to use his body and score dirty goals.

I think his floor is a middle-6 winger that can put up about 20 goals on average, but we'll see how it goes this season. I've got a strong gut feeling that we'll see him on a line with Gaudreau quite a bit this season.

  6. We fans of the CBJ do not have high expectations – just make the playoffs. You never know what might happen once you're there. And there's nothing like playoff hockey so it's always an absolute blast to go to a home playoff game!

  7. One of the more interesting teams to watch. Hopefully in the playoff race.

  8. I really wish Dubas had signed Gusev last year. The 2nd line has some major problems, and is laking a setup player. When Tavares fills in for Matthews, it is amazing how much better Marner makes him – Tavares' goal production basically doubles. I feel like while Gusev is not as good as Marner, he could have at least filled the same role on the 2nd line. Now we just have Nylander, who is super selfish and basically only scores goals on breakaways, on the rush or on the power play – and some random player from the 3rd or 4th line. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it would have been a low risk trial.

  9. So many could be breakout candidates!! Silly, Kent Johnson, Chinakhov, Marchenko, Texier, Boqvist, Bean or Peeker!!! This young D-Core is the Best in the NHL!! Give them Time!!! Also, Kopri was injured all year last year playing through Injuries!! Either way if he bounces back we trade him at the deadline… Tarasov is MY GuY!!

  10. Texier is my breakout candidate for this season. He looked real good until he got hurt last season and of course his personal leave

  11. Sillenger played all 79 games at Center so I don’t imagine him going to wing…..and he honestly might be the guy between Johnny and Patty

  12. Great video and fair assessments. I agree on the % where CBJ probably finishes. Can end higher if everything clicks. Been following CBJ closely for a longer time so some small things I would add would be Tex on the breakthrough Candidates. Was arguably our best forward before he got hurt last season. I also think Peeke cracks Top 4 before Boqvist and Gudbranson. Those 2 fight for the last spot in the top 4.
The rest is pretty spot on. I wouldn't question if Sillinger sticks to playing Center with his rookie season there. Had a decent year and was not bad on draws. I feel like someone like KJ could be on the breakthrough Candidates aswell, but I don't think we see this this season. Probably 23-24 season. I don't have an easy time putting him into this lineup as I want him to have Top 6 minutes and PP time. Hopefully he breaks the AHL with Chinakhov instead 🙂

  13. I'm in the camp that has been a Jacket follower from the first day and now 20 years later, playoff talk is no longer good enough. It has to be valid Stanley Cup talk… valid Stanley Cup talk. So, I'm on the sidelines this season, and until further notice.

  14. I'm rooting for the Columbus blue jackets this year; it will be interesting to see how they do.

  15. I could really see bedard a blue jacket but with the acquisitions they are out most likely…. pending injuries? I can't figure this team out yet

  16. Injuries are always the X factor. But if Boqvist stays healthy. It looks like he will be a terrific player. Talk about a team getting fleeced.Chicago got taken to the cleaners by the CBJ

  17. The resilience of their GM is pretty impressive

    Ps Jiricek 🤩

Pps That Gary Bettmen photo is behind you is a nice touch 😂

  18. we jackets fans are excited this year. Elvis gotta stay sharp and our new guys and rookies need to step up, but otherwise i think we are solid for a playoff spot.

  19. The Hartford Whalers and Quebec Nordiques will win the Stanley Cup before Columbus ever clich SCF.

  20. Overall, a reasonable season preview. As a CBJ fan, I'd agree with the percent chances of the channel vote.
Really the only spot I disagree is the projected top 4 D. I'd say Werenski, Peeke, Gavrikov, Bean are most likely. Blankenburg would be my sleeper pick. Really good at the end of last season, but a small sample size.

  21. So for CBJ to have success they need to stay healthy. Welp that might not go well.

  22. During a live stream a while back, I asked if you thought it was important for each team to have an enforcer. It was CBJ that I had in mind. Josh Anderson was their last, if I recall.

P.S. there's a godawfu Nash (A, alt cpt) KOHO on the site thing place. Ugliest CBU jersey ever…

  23. Offense is not the concern , it's keeping the puck out of the net, I'm really not inspired by that backend , the Jackets are going to have to run and gun every game this year.

  24. I’m from Ohio and played hockey my entire life & would play at nationwide multiple times a season. Awesome that you are covering them. This was my dads favorite team of all sports

  25. Adam Boqvist needs to learn defend. Great offence tools and potential, but was horrible at own end last season.

  26. Columbus will make it to the finals this year thanks to improvements in the younger players and Gaudreau.

  27. You should be charting the likely lines on the board in these vids. May be helpful to see that while you give your thoughts on the team.

  28. I don't know if it's big names wanting to play in Columbus or just the Blue Jackets being one of the league's few remaining non cap-compromised teams at the time those contracts were signed.

  29. Prediction: 7th in the Metro
Reasoning: Adding Johnny Hockey is a huge step in the right direction for this team but they just don't have the pieces this year to break back into the playoffs. That goaltending is shaky and down the middle they're too inexperienced so I say next year is the breakout year when Kent Johnson or Cole Sillinger get up to the first line as regulars.

  30. As lightning fan i believe the team is heading in the right direction they still arnt a playoff team but close very close

  31. This roster looks really solid. I’m saying 3rd or 4th for Columbus this year.
