  1. gonna come down to how fell fleury does scoring shouldn't be a problem

  2. I think Minnesota is still a playoff team. I see a little decline in them this year. They should finish 3rd or 4th in division.

  3. Very fair analysis. We will not drop off the cliff, 2-4 is where I see the Wild. The pipeline is full and future is bright. I do feel 24 will be traded as Guerin is not one to lose assets for zero in return. Love your podcasts!

  4. Hi. Fantastic Preview one more Time. I'm a 100% from the Heart Wild Fan since Day 1. And like the most Fans comment before: In Bill Guerin I trust. Cap Hit hurts, Fiala too. I hope Rossi, Beckman, Boldy and Addison can make a Step forward. If we can free some Cap Space, Rodrigues, Milano and the Veterans like Kessel, Stastny or Eakin would be nice Fits for us. Hard to predict. From 2nd to 6th in the Division, anything can happen. Greetings from Germany. Marco

  5. I believe they overachieved last year (like the Kings). Odds are that Hartman doesn't put up 65 points again. I can see them taking a step back.

  6. I believe they are treading water until their top prospects are ready in a year or two, they hope not to fall apart this or next year so they don't piss of Kaprizov, gotta be at least competitive to keep him happy!

  7. 2nd best team in the west record wise, end up playing 3rd best best team first round? Thanks commish!

  8. As an Avs fan I absolutely hate the Wild. This team and the bLues are I think our two most heated rivals. Wild don’t hate us because unfortunately they have our number in playoff series

  9. Prediction: 2nd in the central
Reason: They did lose some good depth and it would be the sexy pick to say they miss the playoffs but any team with Kaprizov and Flower is gonna be a powerhouse in my book so 2nd. I would not be supprised if this pic ages terribly tho.

  10. From everything I’ve seen, so many wild fans love Billy G. And I’m in that camp for sure. He got Parise and Suter out because he didn’t want their locker room presents infecting Kaprizov. The guy is so much more into the big picture and I think it’s helps out the organization immensely. They’ve only been one or two moves of his that I haven’t cared for (Benn).

  11. I still believe guerin and evason are the right coaches for this team. The problem is still those insane suter parise contracts. The blues were gonna steamroll most teams they faced in the playoffs. I think the wild wouldve had a chance against just about anyone else, including colorado. Its gonna be tough losing fiala. Not sure how to feel about this year, in the end i just want it to be fun to watch.

  12. Hoping Rossi can be the player we all want him to be. I was scratching my head on going MAF over Talbot. But in Billy G we have to trust. GO WILD

  13. Rossi will be top6 not bottom 6 center. Expect Rossi on 2nd line with Boldy.
3rd line is solidified Moose, Ek, Big Rig.
Hartman will center Zucc and Kap
Wild will be Mild during these cap years. But expect them to make a larger than normal push from pretenders to contenders

  14. Between Duhaime, Dewar, Beckman, Rossi, Shaw, and Addison – they need two of them to step up and be impact players.

  15. This last playoff run was so synonymous with Minnesota sports. Such a hard thing to watch. Team that plays so well in the regular season, gets everyone’s hopes up, then shi** the bed in the playoffs….. heartbreaking

  16. Mark O’Rossi will win the Calder Trophy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. I’m looking forward to this season for the Wild, I imagine they will probably finish 3rd in the central behind Colorado and St. Louis and ahead of Nashville and Winnipeg.

I think the biggest areas of concern are in goal. I don’t think Fleury is an elite goaltender anymore. Most of his games for Minnesota last season, and in the playoffs his rebound control was some of the worst I have ever seen and this lead to quite a lot of goals against in the St. Louis series. The PK is also pretty concerning. The first unit generally plays really well, but the second unit lets in a goal about half the time.

Lastly, the big reasons for the goals against despite having a good blue line are 1) For several of those seasons Dubnyk was in net and saving well below average of low danger chances and 2) During the later seasons a lot of our forwards weren’t really playing defense at all – oddly Kevin Fiala was a great example of one who almost never helped on the defensive side of the game. Because if you look at the advanced metrics of all the top 4 defensemen, they are all playing well defensively (Particularly Spurgeon and Brodin, but Middleton and Dumba have been pretty good too).

  18. Yea we'll miss Fiala in the reg season, but not in the playoffs.

  19. Much as I love MAF, I’m not sure he has enough left in the tank to do 50 games this season. They really needed a 1A 1B which they had by not anymore. I see Fleury doing 40 games and hopefully he won’t get hurt. If so, the Wild are in trouble.

  20. Late to the party but they have a solid team numbers wise. I personally think, as most teams should, it will come down to who all stays healthy and uninjured.

Love the banter and all but we all know it really comes down to that. If we can have a young healthy team that's hungry to win, we'll do some damage.

If we get hurt early and often, we're gonna slip out of a playoff spot quick. And if we do make it, well, we all know how the playoffs go. Either way….LGW!!!

  21. Bill Guerin is one of the G.M.'s in the past few years. This Team was "screwed" a few years back with bad contracts, and looking bleak. He developed and carved out a tough, gritty team with a bright future.

  22. Numbers don't lie from previous season. Minny has rarely punched above their weight.
Loss of Fiala hurts. Rossi will take a few seasons to reach full potential. Central div is going to be competitive. Fingers crossed for this season.

  23. We are SAVING money with the Parise and Suter buyouts. Now granted we also have 2 spots to fill in the line-up, BUT this cap hell was coming regardless of if we bought them out or not. The buyouts did not cause this problem, the contracts did. Their contracts were never going to age well, and all reports indicate that getting rid of them has allowed the culture change away from the Country Club attitude that had permeated the locker room.

  24. Boldy (if he plays like he did last season plus a KK level improvement percentage wise) could EASILY absorb all we lost in Fiala plus whatever else we add between Rossi and other additions later on, I think the bigger question is on Hartman and Dumba, both are critical and both are very tradeable for excellent replacements, picks, or anything Guerin and Evason want or need, if they don't perform the trick is to find replacements that will help massively on special teams and quickly, stalling around like we did between the goalies and the prospects really hurt us last season and it won't help with those two, as for the rest of the team, time will be the best improvement for the team from Middleton to Gustafson and Rossi there are huge opportunities to be had with better bonding and more harmonious play (a noticeable issue in February among others as well as the playoffs was the huge amount of passes they were dropping that should never have been dropped, this too comes with time and integration)!

  25. Fiala is too streaky, and is not worth what he wanted. I'm happy we got rid of him, if he puts up more than 40pts in LA I'll be surprised. He also sucks in the playoffs. That being said, we still lack an elite center and Dumba is nothing but a puck vending machine to any opposing team. We aren't going anywhere until we get out of cap hell, and trade Kaprizov for a kings ransom to rebuild around our young core. As much as I love Kappy, he will be almost 28 when we get rid of the suter/parise joke. I say trade him. I doubt we could get Bedard, but he's definitely worth a 2nd overall pick for Michkov.

  26. If the Wild get 2 3 or 5 it's really bad news. We just don't ever seem to match up well with the Blues (and the Avs will probably be a buzz saw). The Central is the toughest division right now, and only the Atlantic is even close.

  27. Wild fan. Wasn’t going to click this season preview until I saw it was from THE Hockey Guy. Love the content.

  28. Feel like the Wild have lost a step in its current state and will struggle and then likely get swept 🧹 if they can manage to make the playoffs.

  29. I am tired of this whole talbot being in the all star game thing. The guy was 7th in goals against and 8th in save percentage when the all star break happened, in his own fucking division. Out of the 8 starters in the division he was one of the worst. The only reason he got voted to the all star game was his wins total as in the top 3 at the time. He didn't deserve to be in the all star game

  30. Just getting into hockey 5 years ago, (so I am Green) It just kinda bugs me we have too many short players who can't take hits. Once they beat us up in the playoffs or any game for that matter we just can't take the massive hits with short players. I just don't see a cup ever, when in 1/2 a game anyone knows they can kill us/crush us into submission and move players to the tunnel by aggressive mass checking.

  31. To the penalty kill statistic.. I think it's worth pointing out that the wild were I believe 3rd in the regular season for most penalties. Being in the box so much and constantly gassing players on the kill doesn't help. I'm all for being a tough team but we have to be smarter than how we've been so far. Overall I agree, the wild need to improve pk and pp. If that happens some old gears with built up cob webs could start turning.
