yes the Isles missed the playoffs last year, but dont forget the circumstances that occurred last year that WONT happen this year. All that considered, in my opinion puts the Isles in 4th MINIMUM.

i see the islanders and the canucks as in the same boat. teams that finished ahead of them made some moves during the off season and they haven't done anything. they are up against the cap and i don't see either making the playoffs. unfortunately they'll be drafting in the middle of the pack next year.

I still don’t see this team as a playoff team in that tough eastern conference
The beginning of last season sunk their playoff chances. 13 game road trip, which they started to get going after their typical slow first 10 games. Sorokin was less than a minute from having back to back to back shutouts. Then they lost Pulock and their hottest scorer at the time Nelson to injury. Then covid hit the team as they were coming home. Which the NHL should have shut them down before playing their second home game. I remember going to the rags game and fans chanting "Let's go Tigers." Half the team was AHL and it showed. They get back to playing and shortly after the league shuts down for 10 days. They get back to playing and Canada shuts their road trip for a week. They made a run when they finally had a consistent schedule going. They just got tired playing such a packed schedule to make up the games. 3 weeks in a row of 5 games a week. You can see they ran out of steam at the end. That being said, I think Lambert will keep the defensive system but I think he won't have the tight leash on the scorers as Trotz had. Hopefully Bailey not leading in time on ice for forwards. Sitting the young players for a mistake when they are trying to score goals. He said he believes they have the talent, just need to let them play at their level. If it looks like it not working, I think they will be close to the top of the division, but if they struggle he'll look to make a trade. And still have the best goalie in the league, another reason I think they struggled, Trotz not playing Ilya more consecutive games, to bail the team out when needed. So, I'm looking forward to this season, and back to everyone overlooking them.
By the way there 3 play off spots by division in the play off and the other 2 in the conference are Wild Cards. i.e can be two from the Atlantic, 2 from the Metropolitan or split between the two division. Isle fighting for those two with 6-7 other clubs.

Maybe the fact he's doing nothing is a statement… maybe he believes that it was a fluke and it's a statement to the locker room that he believes in the guys there. Lou has also never been a fan of smaller guys not just younger guys and prefers grit. I'm not surprised Kadri didn't go the islanders, does everyone forget how Kadri was treated under Lou while he played in Toronto? This is coming from a leafs fan but none of these moves by Lou surprise me, debrincat and gaudreau are both smaller players too so it didn't shock me they weren't grabbed either
Very very very Very disappointed in this Lou lamoriello…should’ve left WAY before Trotz, and no wonder why Trotz is taking time away from hockey. I’m sure he can’t believe it EITHER! The Isles will make the playoffs at 3rd or 4th. This projected blue line is going to have to be”Alienware” to do anything!!!
