  1. Matt Zultek was highly ranked when he was drafted but he burned himself. He wouldn't sign an EL contract with the Kings and rumors were he wanted to play somewhere else. After a couple seasons he went back into the draft and Boston took him but he never played there either. He'd lost so much development time that he couldn't advance to the NHL and played a long time as a career minor leaguer.

  2. I’m also a Kings fan and have been for a really long time (probably since the Triple Crown Line, (but also a Dallas Fan as well)

    And Yes buddy,

I’m Glad they got the two cups they did

  3. In fairness to the Teubert pick in the first round, he was a part of the trade that brought Dustin Penner to the Kings. He definitely played a part in the 2012 Cup. So, while Teubert only played 30-something games, he was a successful pick for the Kings.

  4. I will never forget how Pierre McGuire gave teams with earlier picks than the Kings heat for not selecting Lauri Tukonen…
    Did not age amazing…

  5. Marcel Dionne is way better than Guy Lafleur. But cause he played in LA, he doesn’t get nearly the recognition he deserves.

  6. Annoyed they beat the Rangers for S.C. but LAK at least contributed Jay Wells to our Cup (although no Cup Mark Hardy was pretty good for us too)

  7. LA will shock people this year. Cal has to rebound from an awful season. Can’t rely solely on the great play of Quick. Definitely see LA making a deep playoff run this year.

  8. The best Kings draft pick was the first round pick that they traded in 1978 for goalie Ron Grahame, who went 23-32-7 (4.25 GAA) in 2+ seasons with the Kings. The Bruins selected Ray Bourque with the #8 pick.

  9. It was the Fabulous Forum before it was the Great Western Forum. #CheckIt What was the only cola that was served?? And, there were two sides of the arena to sit on.. What are the answers?

  10. When I first started going to Kings games, it was the Fabulous Forum My season seats were section 5 row D seats 3/4 Got priced out after three seasons of Gretzky Just couldn’t afford $75 per seat plus food and drinks plus babysitting 😕

  11. I used to watch Jamie Storr play for the Windsor Spitfires when he got sent down to the minors. I remember he still had his Kings painted helmet. I felt like I was watching a NHL game. I was 11 years old at the time

  12. I don’t think we can go deep into the playoffs with both Kopi and Doughty in the lineup, I think the tank is nearing empty on both of them. You pointed out just how lousy our management was on the 70’s and 80’s ,especially when it came to drafting..

  13. I live near Springfield, MA where the Springfield Kings won a couple of Calder Cups in a row around 1970. I’ve read that a number of their players were sent out to Lis Angeles to round out the roster for the LA Kings in their startup years. At that time the Springfield team was owned by NHL Hall of Famer Eddie Shore.

  14. Amazed that mcsorley has pim🥊record⏺️ even though they had schultz🔨 tiger🐅williams & avery🤤‼️

  15. too bad Gretzky9️⃣9️⃣ never did win🏆cup after Edmonton but still accomplished 1st🥇(last⁉️) Campbell Conference win 4 Kings👑‼️

  16. Doughty Kopitar & Quick only remaining players from 2012 2014 Cup🏆🏆teams😁 if only that 70s line could have kept dynasty goin but new crop of players could lead 2 surprise push 4 another cup🏆🙏🏻🧎🏻‍♂️🛐‼️

  17. I was lucky enough to have been at the Fabulous Forum on April 10, 1982, for a playoff game between the Kings and the young Gretzky-led Edmonton Oilers that would go down in history as one of, if not the greatest comeback in NHL history, that would be dubbed "The Miracle on Manchester." If you're a newer NHL fan and haven't heard of this, search for it on Youtube; it was amazing!

  18. My first King's game was April '74. I've been a fan since then. I actually was in the 'house' 2012 when they won the cup. Rob Scuderi was my neighbor & sustained 35 stiches in the second period. The team is coming out strong after the rebuild. Kevin Fiala is a game changer for us with Kempe's breakout year 2021-22, I'm optimistic!

  19. LA going into the 2012 final wasn't that big of a surprise for me. Every opponent they played, LA had won or tied the series in the regular season (VAN: 2-2; STL: 3-1; PHX: 3-1-2). Sure regular season records aren't be-all-end-all but still, they show how well teams match up to each other. Also, getting the finals win isn't that surprising considering that the Western Conf is stronger that the Eastern Conf.

  20. When the Kings stopped trading its future/ high picks away, that's when they became stable and relevant. Jack Kent Cooke to the earlier years of AEG Ownership were so unstable and quite frankly Kings were just one of many businesses of AEG to attract more businesses in Downtown LA especially playing at Staple Center. Kings were either so horrible or on the cusp of being great, but were overly matched by great and elite teams for the most part. However they were underdogs that upset great teams in 80's, 90's and early 2000s too, but one is for sure: despite of small in numbers, but one of the most loyalist fans in NHL.

  21. Interesting fact for younger fans. In 79/80 Dionne and Gretzky tied for the Art Ross but Dionne got it for having 2 more goals. He thought they should share it but I guess Gretz would be OK after all lol

  22. The Forum is still a great venue, and IMO better viewing then Staples Center since its seating angle is much steeper. That 2012 Cup was MAGICAL. 2014 was too, sure, but lets face it we all knew we would win the Cup again the moment we beat Chicago. Which was a 7 game multiple OT tough as nails series, but the Rangers were no match for the Western teams that year. Went to both Cup winning games at Staples. Priceless memories.

  23. Didn't LA already announce Brown's number retirement date? That should've been included in the retired numbers section but otherwise a typically superb job covering a team's history!

  24. This upcoming season reminds of where the Kings were at after 2010. They got a taste of the playoffs now can they take the next step and not only get back to the playoffs but emerge as a legit threat to compete for the Cup. There's about 4 forward and 2 defense spots ready for the prospects to emerge and become the next wave of talent. If the Byfield's, Kaliyev's, Durzi's etc become legit top 6 and top 4 players then they'll enter their next 5-year Cup window starting this season.
