I like the culture KH is instilling in the organization, that of internal competition and earning one's spot. I particularly like what he said about not wanting young players to be playing cautiously for seven minutes a game in the big league, because that is not the way for them to grow. They grow by taking chances and trying things through lots of reps in the lower leagues.
He also knows it isn't his place to tell the coaches who to play and where in the lineup. And I like his approach to contract negotiations with a player: let the player and the agent know how he sees the player fitting in. He knows hockey, he knows how to deal fairly with people, and he's thorough down to subtle things. Edmonton is lucky to have KH build the Oilers' culture.
It's also kind of comical the way he talks, especially when he gets rolling, but that just makes him feel like a family member imparting his rare wisdom.
