  1. IMHO, the Senators will be much improved this season–will they make the playoffs? Not likely, BUT, they will definitely be more competitive –of the subtractions, Matt Murray was the big name, but, he was subpar during his tenure in Ottawa.—admitting that Del Zotto was a mistake and letting him go fixes a problem also. GM Dorian made some great acquisitions, all really good players, and Cam Talbot is a major upgrade in goal. I see vast improvement coming, especially the PP, with the addition of the A-Cat. Ottawa could surprise and do much better than projected–I, for one, would like to see that happen. So, we shall see.

  2. Mr Chychrun got 10 more points in Arizona, but alot less hits, block shots, etc. Hockey Reference. 19 take aways and 37 giveaways by Chychrun and 13 takeaways and 37 give aways by Zaitsev. Chychrun's 66 and 51 Block shots and Hits compared with Zaitsev's 103 and 128 in 15 more games with just 10 fewer points. now Chabot's 29 takeaways and 68 giveaways compared with 93 blocks and 73 hits. don't think Chychrun's the answer for Otts.

Its Debrincat's arbitration year at minimum of 7.8% of whatever upcoming salary cap amount. Who knows how much he wants? But I think you're right, DJ may find himself in under the microscope very quickly. They (the owners) paid the price for the players, the pressure is on the coach' otherwise it's Dorion's fault.

  3. Good point about DJ Smith. Blame Time on restructuring is over, if they don’t start good or don’t make the playoffs, it’s coaching. I wish DJ the best but we will see, I do have some concerns there.

  4. They are a playoff team. The only thing I believe is that they need a strong start for the first 10 games. Really would love them to make 1 more move, We need a top RD bad. That is our glitch right there, Other then that they are contenders now. Looking forward to puck drop.

  5. They look good on paper but how will DJ handle them plus injuries who replaces the cat and Groux if they get hurt or Stuzle. Is Greg good enough to come up or pinto ?

  6. The team for sure has a legit chance at pushing for a playoff spot with the roster they have. They are probably 1 top 4 D away from being a lock to make it

  7. They need to add someone to play with Sanderson or Chabot, even if it's just for one year. Chychrun is gonna cost too much, but a Chris Tanev would be a good add as a placeholder for Thomson or JBD

  8. I worry more about team defence — the tendency to get trapped in their own end, defencemen with no one to pass to, coverage breakdowns — than I do about specific blueline personnel. Coaching has a lot to do with it and if DJ likes his job he should make it a priority. I don't know exactly what Wade Redden's new job is, but he should be able to help.

  9. The focus this year is getting better and getting more experience for our young guys. We're really weak on RD but it's not a hole we have to fill right away. We have the prospects and picks to do that at the deadline or in the summer next year depending on what's right for the team.

  10. The only way Ottawa Senators to get even more better if they get rid of Zeitsev, he is holding the Ottawa Senators down

  11. Like Detroit, improvement is projected, but will it be enough to secure a playoff spot? Depends on the Bruins, who have big holes with Marchand and McEvoy out for a long stretch. The D core still looks weak to me, and Talbot is a goalie who needs a strong D in front of him. They will miss Connor Brown. If Sens can secure a top 4 D without mortgaging their future, then a wild card spot is a definite possibility. Good to have a positive vibe around Ottawa after 3-4 years of turmoil.

  12. I think the Sens will make the playoffs. I even think the Habs will make the playoffs. The Laughs will struggle with those two unproven goalies. Allen has been playing his best hockey with the Habs.

  13. Chychryn isn’t the answer. Trading assets to get rid of zaitsev isn’t the answer either. The Sens D core will improve internally with the addition on Sanderson, and JBD along with Lassi will take another step forward. If Branstrom can also take a step forward and Hamonic can continue on last year’s success they should be decent on the back end… but I dont think a playoff team just yet. In 2023-24 they will be though.
