I have no idea why Mikko is quarterbacking that 5 on 3. It put Mack on the wrong side and mikko at the point. Which is Cales strongest spot when Mack’s is where Makars is and Mikkos is where Mack is. I have no idea what that was. Great game but that 5 on 3 was disappointing and ruined the 1st period for me.

This game was a perfect example of what the Avs can do at their best. Pundits all over the place were questioning whether the Avs had the defense to win a cup after game 1, as if that was the first Avalanche game they've watched this year. Yeah, game 1 was not a good one from the defense. I didn't like it any more than anyone else. But when this team decides it's going to play smarter, and allow their scoring chances to come off of their defensive pressure, this is the result. It's not necessarily this team's identity, but they can do this when they need to. And that's just it; this team doesn't have just one identity. They're very versatile.
I heard the TNT broadcast asking during our game 1 if the Tampa/New York game 1 was going to be another 8-6 type game, and they said "No, Tampa won't let that happen. They shut down Florida and they know how to win this time of year". I was scratching my head over that. Because it looked to me like Florida was pretty much shooting at will in those games, and Vasilevskiy just bailed them out (though, I guess Tampa maybe kept them out of as many high danger areas?). Well, wouldn't you know it, those defensive wizards gave up 6 goals to the Rangers in game 1. And Tampa looks pretty pedestrian on offense, lately. The way the Avs played tonight is the best any team has looked in these playoffs, in my opinion, and that kind of effort is the key to winning the cup.
