  1. He'll be in the top 6/9, he can skate, score and kill penalties, plus maybe some PP time too. He's an overall .5pts/game player which can slot 2nd line. I have no issue giving $4.75/yrs to someone who can play up n down the three top 9 VS giving over $3mil to 4th liners. Plus with UFAs its always gonna cost a bit more. Iike how they are complementing Kuzmenko and Podzy with other fellow countrymen

  2. People have to look past goals man. I know it’s tough but the reason he got that dollar amount is his speed, his great PK’ing ability (which with all the depth on the pk now might free up Bo from the PK) he had a great goal pace last season, if he builds from last season and stays healthy that’s a totally fine deal. Podkolzin has a Russian winger to play with if it’s either Ilya or Kuzmenko and I like the direction we are going my only thing I’m scared of is we need to build on the defence. Guys like Ilya and Lazar are only going to increase our forwards, defence is the next big focus and the only way that will get done is by trades of the likes of Miller, Garland, Pearson etc. Hopefully they are able to pull it off because the forwards are looking stronger than ever in the depth department.

  3. I remember last year Fans thrilled Canucks got Dickinson . Lazar a 3 year deal reminds me of Tim Schaller signing . Canucks have missed the boat with Miller , should have taken NYR offer at trade deadline , I can see us losing him this time next year for nothing .

  4. Looks like there will be a strong Russian connection. It should be an interesting next season.

  5. You look for speed and he got speed. Can put the puck in net and great PK skills with good size. He will prove to be good value to the Canucks. Now, get rid of the remaining slower players and we are in better shape than last with Kuzmenko joining in.

  6. I think people forget nobody liked the JT miller trade when it went down originally. For this one yes there is some term to it at higher price tag, but you didn't have to give up anything to get this player. The Canucks focus today was pretty clear they went for speed and size. If you dont have both it's hard to match up against the heavy and fast teams like Colorado if you want to get out of the west.

  7. Didn't get much ice time,he will be a steal ,and a star.VAN WILL NOT REGRET. Long as he gets the chance

  8. As a Leafs fan I'm super HAPPY he left…way overpaid, and limited ability and cap liability…
    My amateur armchair scouting report:
Pro: big body, super fast, can carry the puck in, speed backs off defenders…, gets like a hundred breakaways
Cons: Plays like he's 5'-9", soft AF, when the Habs were running the Leafs in playoffs-one of the few players that didn't register a hit, some Leaf blogger pointed to more hitting this past year (don't care what he's credited with, if you watch the games-it's more like soft bumps).
Has stone hands, lacks offensive ability to play in the top 6, nor a good forechecker, but was rumoured to want a bigger role ie. top 6. Take last years stats with a grain of salt, remove the ENG, putt in goals with net wide open and it's really not much production. The silver lining is that he got better at breakaways…and that's where most of his real goals came from.
I like Mikheyev as a 3rd line winger, if he made <<3M & there's other guys on his line that are more grittier or physical. Problem is that he was over utilized (PP), and contributes to Leafs weakness, being soft AF & as Steve Dangle likes to put it (play ring around the rosy with the puck).

In terms of offensive ability (if you ignore his lightning speed): Leivo>>Petan>>>>>>>>Mikheyev

  9. Funny how it’s amazing because he sighs this contract with another team but if it was Toronto everyone would be saying Fire Dubas Trade Nylander First round exit 1967 🙄😂🤷‍♂️

  10. Honestly, yeah he's overpaid, but he's also exactly the kind of player the team was missing last year. Think about it: if they had Ilya last year when their pk was the worst the league had seen, the Canucks make playoffs. Plus, people worry about him not scoring as many goals, but I say the Boudreau system works for him. If Motte could score 7 in half a season on this team, Ilya can score 20. Period.

  11. Allvin made dome of the best splashes in free agency this offseason.

Mikheyev's addition adds speed , middle 6 scoring and a strong penalty killer. He will play on power play too, perhaps 1st power play minutes.

Lazar is a rare right shot centre with speed who kills penalties very well. (Hometown player too woop Salmon Arm!)

Dakota Joshua is a gritty 4th liner/13th man who p.k.'s and is fairly ornery aswell. He help Springfield to the Calder cup finals (AHL).

The Delia signing is a 3rd goalie signing, and also a conspicuous move, that for me says to Silovs & more so to Mikey Dipietro it's coming to crunch time. This is the season to make some positive steps. Perhaps Dipietro won't show the kind of growth that Demko did, but he could very well become our backup. The door is open, there's just a few other goalies looking at that job too. Dipietro is currently unsigned however he was qualified.
Delia will compete for backup role with Spencers Martin.

The last signing which hasn't received any fanfare today is the Kuzmenko signing. He's hoped to add middle 6 depth and scoring and to play on 2nd power play unit, but really it's anyone's guess for how he ends up playing. Can he produce like Panarin and Dadonov, or more so like Gusev and Shipyachov?

So all in all these moves adress areas on our squad of importance and realistically the only areas of weakness: speed, middle 6 scoring and penalty killing (GAA was 2.82 but p.k. was 74%.) **EDIT: our backup goaltending was weak aswell. Halak was a letdown, it's unreasonable to lay anything at one players feet. However if Halak had stolen us 2 or 3 wins more the Canucks wouldn't have been golfing so early this summer. I can remember games he was to start in and feeling beforehand that we were likely to loose. It can be said though that our forwards didn't always provide the needed goal support when Halak played.

I am honestly very excited and optimistic. As i've said we've adressed our weaknesses, we have to wait to see if they will be effective. So, with our top liners playing the way we know they can, and with this added depth, and continued all-league goaltending, the Canucks appear poised to take a playoff spot. Of course every team which missed the dance will be equally optymistic. So I expect it will be a battle for 6th, 7th & 8th between VGK, WPG, NSH, CGY & our Canucks!

    GO CANUCKS GO!!!

    GO CANUCKS GO!!!

  12. Puts up points and plays mostly hard defensive minutes. His hands definitely not as bad as people were saying. Has become a much better finisher as his last year stats show. He just gave his lineages more time and space. Peter will hit this guy all day with breakaways.

  13. Benning would have gone 6×6. I'm fine with this signing. I'd take him over garland, personally.

  14. As a leafs fan, I'm gonna miss him. You did very well Vancouver. Stop yer bitchin', If he stays healthy, you'll be more than happy

  15. The Leafs believe that it was the team elevated the player’s play and that Mikheyev’s was not worth more than before ($1.6/season past 2 yrs). Time will tell but it feels like the Canucks overpaid again.
