Hextall's abilities as a GM were cleaning up Homers many many mistakes and horrible contracts. Homer should've been fired because he's trash. Having said that Hextall hadn't exactly killed it in the trade and signing departments either, you see Lehtera and Weis and cringe. Hak has no clue, his only strategy is to have the points fire the puck to the net and that's it, meanwhile forsaking defense in favor of, well in favor of nothing. Then you get to the special teams and think "wow how has this team won at all this season?" It's all around just a shit show here in Philly. I like Hextall a lot, I think his drafts were solid and he got us out of cap hell. But his ultra conservative approach doesn't seem to be working at all this season and didn't work last season.
I wish Hexy‘ moves had shown more results this season. The Hack experiment was done by the end of last season IMO. I’m also unsure how the President is going to fix this with a new GM but I’m up for the ride along. As for a goalie Hart has been decent in the AHL but so far no Bernie or Pele, although Bernie did take a few seasons to fully develop. Not sure what we do in the meantime… trade two decent skaters for a decent goalie? Wild got a decent goalie in Dubs (a few years back) from AZ since he was their backup so I guess anything’s possible.

I’m in a bout of exams at the moment so I keep turning on and off my NHL notifications. So I’m going through my day all “la la laaa- OHMYGAAD” Strome traded to the Hawks? Flyers firing GM? I don’t even KNOW what’s going on with Nylander at this point. Everyday it’s just a new surprise to give a heart attack.

As a devoted Flyers fan, I am displeased with the firing of Hextall. The PK coach should have been fired 1st. Then if no improvements the coach. If at the half season mark the atmosphere is toxic, u shake up the locker room. Ron was lining up the organization for the future he did that. Yes we all wanna win a cup but he was thinking of winning many cups.
All I see happening now is Hakstol on a short leash, maybe fired. Some good awful trades and losing all the salary cap wealth. And more the likely losing Simmer.

Holmgren has always been a problem. He needs to be exiled from the franchise. Hextall has this team moving in the right direction and on the right growth plan.
I simply love Ron !! Just make that plane but the team has been in the middle of the pack for a long time! Hate to see him go but he has to!! If Paul really wanted to make a statement on how the league plays now he would sign Ron as there number one goalie !!!! Now I would but a season ticket for that year and I live in Detroit!!!! Don

1 he needed to be fired for not addressing goaltending which was never a surprise weakness
2 he needed to fire hakstol long ago this team shows now spark when he coaches and he has no emotion. Ever. He fails to prepare this team for games which always puts them behind starting the second.
3 lapariere our special teams coach needed to be fired ages ago. Our pk has been bottom of the barrel for 5 years now and the power play isn't too hot anymore.
4 Steve Mason has been the best goalie for this organization since hextall and we let him walk because he had an ego? We fired the goalie coach that had him looking like a hall of Famer then he goes a bit downhill with personal issues and a new goalie coach and this whole fan base decides he's the issue. Give me a break. He was the best option at goalie until hart was ready and we blew it
Just watched presser, lavishly complimented on how he rebuilt their team. Then they fired him for not bending from the process that got them there. Would you take advice from Holmgren? #flyerhockey
it seems a lot of people have this opinion: Hextall did a great job cleaning up the mess that Holmgren created, and are scared that Holmgren is going to recreate it with this new GM, but also feel that Hextall was too patient. As well as Hakstol being a crap coach. Lets get this straight HAKSTOL IS A BAD COACH, and he should've been gone first, and maybe this team does a little better and Hexstall keeps his job

Who knows really, heck, they could have they fired Hextall as their GM cause they figure he's fit enough to play as their #1 Goalie for a lesser aav than their current, not to mention that most Flyers goalies stats seem mediocre in comparison to Hextall's during his career as their #1 (just my thoughts on the issue)
Obviously Hextall is past his point of no return but it would be funny to see something like that happen lol
