  1. nooo, we are 5 points ahead of the sens which pick 7th at the moment. we could jump 3 spots in the lottery if we loose.

  2. Meaningless 2 points when Det and Buf could in theory pass the sharks.Even winning is still losing.

Scott Reedy playing well is another reason why Doug Wilson is a bad GM.I do not know if Dougs health was so bad he had nothing to do with Reedy or if he is who picked him but the point remains that the Sharks have always been able to find cheap talent "which is great" but also he would intentionally give out those insane 8 year contracts and no trade clauses too.Burns,Vlasic,Karl,Couture,Jones and Hertl not a single one them is worth their contract. At least with Hertl it is "possible" he could score a point or more per game in the future but the safer bet is to bet against it "since he has never done it before" and let a team like the Senators overpay him.No offense OTT.

The safer/smarter move is to trade them so you only have players you think can outplay their current contract. When the Bears paid Khalil Mack 23.5 million a year I knew even before his first game there he had almost no chance to be worth that.Even at the time he was worth around 12 mill a year based on his stats. The Bears never won a single playoff game with him there and could have obviously used the extra 11.5 million that Mack was not worth on another player/s.Tons of fans even defended the Bears GM for doing it which just adds to the insanity.

Overpaying a player is only ok under certain contexts.

#1.It is a 1 or 2 year deal and you dont care

#2.You need to meet the minimum salary cap

#3.The other team sent you so much compensation that you are cool with overpaying them for a few years.

The Sharks trading Brent Burns to the 3 teams he says will demand the sharks overpay them to pay his awful contract. They could say if the Sharks trade their 1st or Meier they would be happy to pay Burns 8 mill a year for 3 years.

#4.You think you can win a championship in 3 years or less and will risk being fired if you are wrong

#5.You dont care about winning and want a specific player to help sell tickets or get the media to talk about your team "like the Khalil Mack on the bears example"

Even sending Burns,Vlasic to the Barracuda would free up 2 roster spots on a 2 younger guys who could/would have more value for the team.

  3. Typical Sharks – barely win with a large lead – when the reality is this team needs to tank and start getting better players……

  4. A hollow arena. If you want to make money, get a contending team. These days and in these markets you have to be a winner.
