Kid has potential. And was supposed to be a top 5 pick. Why take another defenseman when we need forwards. Kid was the best available.
I know deangelo. I work at the rink he practices at in the summer. I can’t speak for everyone but he’s been nothing but nice to me and the other staff at the rink

Its getting criticize because its an underwhelming pick for a top 5 pick and we essentially chose him over Debrincat. Gauthier also wasnt ranked close to top 5 until very recently in large part got picked so high due to his size which a lot of people hate in 2022.
But its also not a bad pick and he should definitely be a good NHLer. He has all the tools. Big, can skate, really good shot, great hands, 2 way play, should play center … But he lacks that elite dynamic ability and many think will top out at best a 2nd liner. But if he becomes a ~30 goal 2C then its a great pick. Time will tell. Shouldnt be too upset about it.
Some of us actually have seen Gauthier play and it's nothing against him but Jiricek was ranked higher by virtually every scout and outlet and the Flyers biggest need is defense, especially RD and Jiricek is there and yes I've seen both of them play numerous times. Those guys were both on display in the junior championships. Gauthier looks great but guys like Jiricek are SOOOOO hard to find. I don't understand how even the casual fan doesn't understand this either. It's not rocket science.

Negadelphians, the group that keeps on crapping on their own franchises. Watching film on Cutter I feel he looks like a young Primeau or LeClair if we're making former Flyers comparisons. He is no JVR, JVR was always soft, not as smooth a skater, nor had a release that could hit the net from outside 5ft in front of the goalie.
The Flyers and DeAngelo deserve each other. Hell, they’re the same team that gave upstanding citizen and known all around good guy Billy Tibbetts a roster spot at one time.
I would’ve taken Savoie. I even had Nazar higher then Gauthier.

Regarding DeAngelo…seems like maybe he has come along a bit maturity-wise. You never know. But on the ice, big question for Philly is, can he do what he did without Slavin? Remains to be seen, and to be fair they both upped each other quite a bit. But Slavin was the rock in that pairing. And if DeAngelo does what he did on the Flyers, will it make a difference in their ultimate results? From the Carolina side, does it make sense to take a bunch of unknown quantity for a known asset who likely has a good few years in the league yet and was signed to an affordable contract? If this was the move, they need to try to use that money to keep Nino or Trochek, because Morrow or Keane aren't going to make a difference this year. And, oh yeah, they need to hit on at least one of those picks when they are gunning for a Cup now. Like rebuilding move. Seems dumb for each side.
