I think just in the sense that for Pittsburgh something had to change in the room, and this is the most overhaul we’ve seen from them after a disappointing end in a long time, Pittsburgh probably wins this trade right now but that could change in 5-10 years when we see how the 4th rounder and Poehling turn out.
It makes sense for the penguins, they needed an upgrade over Marino and I think your comparison of the two D is backwards.
As a pens fan, I have to say I’m excited to see Petry coming our way. However, Matheson is a great player and I hate for him to go. Enjoy Mike, Neil; He’ll do great for your Canadiens!
Matheson was a good player…..sucks that he's gone. Petry used to be an elite player but now I'm not sure. The Pens are going all in though, and that's great to see. But in three years, they will probably be on rebuild status and Petry probably will be traded elsewhere but I guess time will tell how this trade works out

I think the habs win this trade right now as neither d man were particularly good last season petry especially, so swap the more offensive guy with a more defensive guy while clearing a couple million in cap space and getting an easier contract to move down the road if need be is great value for the habs. However Pittsburgh has more potential to win in the future, if petry can return to form and poehling can develop a little better under Pittsburgh’s guidance then I think they win hands down.
Petry is a #1 D-man, although not top 15 in the league. . Matheson isn't. I think this is an upgrade to their second pairing, plus they are adding Joseph and Rutta.. 🤷♂️
They have great depth but they're going to need to make another trade really.
