  1. The Isles want to win now and Romanoff is filling an important hole that needed to be filled. Was it worth a 13th overall pick? I don't pretend to know so as an Isles fan who loves hard hitting fan favorite types of players I look forward to seeing him play.

  2. Arber Jack EYE will be better then Romanov was. Romanov for Dach was great. We have tons of D.

  3. Need to get younger and faster. Chara and Greene are good guys, but past their prime. Romanov and Salo will improve that blueline.

  4. I think the Islanders got their 13th round pick's worth. As a Habs fan I'm sorry to see Romanov go. He's a solid defenseman and think Alex Lemelin but a little better with potential. I understand there is a lot of upcoming defenseman in the Habs system and let's hope there are enough birds in the bush to get enough in the hand for a solid defense future. I worry about Dach and if Chicago is rebuilding why didn't they hang on to their 3rd round pick from 3 years ago? Godspeed Alex Romanov.

  5. The problem with Dach is that I feel he's damaged goods , they should play him in Laval, he needs to regain confidence and get a refresh on his game . If this works his upside potential is huge ( like watch out Suzuki huge)

  6. My theory is that Montreal was after 1st and 2nd draft pick. When they found out they couldn't get the 2nd draft pick they did the next best. They went out and got Kirby Dach(3rd) a left wing and a big center man.

  7. Of all these other left-handed defensemen that the Canadiens have, how many hit like Nik Kronwall? Because that's what Romanov can do. He has the potential to change a playoff game or a playoff series with a single hit. That is a pretty RARE type of defenseman. Lou knew exactly what he was doing in making this deal. Romanov will be an impact player, and unless Dach becomes a true number one center, people are going to look back on this deal as real bad from MTL's side.

  8. Islanders wanted a good young D-man that could play in the NHL right away. If they had drafted at #13 thay would've gotten someone who are ready in say 2025

  9. Sad to see Romanov gone. So far i'm still not sure about all the Habs managing decisions, on paper sound good, but at the end we trade all of our our popular players, Romanov, lehkonen, Toffoli, Chiarot, Kulak, and we still have Petry, Drouin, Dvorak, Hoffman. I'm sure they got a good story for those decisions but at the end we are still stuck with all those broken players.

  10. The Canucks drafted Jet Woo right before him! We could have had Romanov but we got Woo who was converted to forward in the AHL because he couldnt even crack Defence in the AHL . Another Benning Blunder

  11. Hope Romanov become a big contributor in New York, just as Lehkonen helped bring the Cup to Colorado.

  12. I’ll reserve my judgment of the Romanov trade until we see what Isaiah George becomes

  13. Left handed d prospects
Guhle, Harris, Hutson, Norlinder, Struble, Xhekaj, Nurmi, Trudeau, Engstrom

    Right handed d prospects
Barron, Mailloux, Fairbrother, Tourigny, Kostenko, Sobolev, Henriksson

    Guhle-Barron
    Hutson-Harris
    Xhekaj-Norlinder

    Other possible 3rd pairings-
    Struble-Tourigny
    Nurmi-Mailloux
    Trudeau-Fairbrother

  14. Romanov honestly became my favorite player and this trade hit hard, so I've found it a little difficult to focus on the logical hockey side of it. I hope things go well for him with the Isles and am very curious about Dach

  15. There is more to it the team didn’t know where he was so this was a factor to

  16. It's a simple matter of depth. Romanov will be missed, but with Guhle, Harris and Xhekaj, getting a young C2 like Kirby Dach was the right decision to make. Not taking anything away from Romanov, so to all Isles fans outhere; be happy, you're gonna love him !

  17. trade wasn't about moving romanov. it was about getting dach. and habs had to have another first to do it and do it quick with isles talking to canucks about j t. and bad trade for a team that desperately needs a scorer. you trade 13 for that scorer, not buying high on potential of a young d man.

  18. As an isles fan I was a bit shocked to hear the deal. I have to admit I genuinely had no idea who Romanov was, to learn we parted with a first rounder (when there were rumors about the islanders acquiring some blockbuster deal) was concerning. On the surface I fully understand why we could use this guy but to roll the dice just because he is a young, cheap, LHD. I get it “He’s immediately better than anyone selected at 13” but the islanders gave up the best trade asset for a rebuilding team. Most Habs fans say he’s a fan favorite type of guy but the islanders have plenty of those. I’m praying this deal works out.

  19. This trade is overhated. People straight up hating because the hole world hates the islanders for some reason.

  20. khl offered him a contract 2x1mil. maybe he leaves. did he/is he supposed to military service in his home country? like kaprisov a bit

  21. According to Montreal GM Kent Hughes, Habs showed interest in the 13th pick, It was the Islanders that requested Romanov in order to let go of the 13th OA. Habs needed a high draft pick to acquire Dach. It was Montreal's desire to get Kirby D that set all this in motion.

  22. I was listening to TSN690 on the radio in Montreal today and a few callers were really upset about the trade. They would have never traded Romanov and were claiming Dach is already a proven bust. Here's my opinion.

Romanov was great. He added a physical aspect the the Habs and I will miss him for it. He didn't win the Jacques Beauchamp trophy for noting. But as good as Romanov is, the Habs can't win games with body checks in their own zone. Dach isn't a bust. Yet. Looks at the team mates and ice time he got in Chicago. He was playing with guys like Carpenter, Smith and Shaw in his first season. He wasn't playing with anything resembling offensive wingers. He was playing on the 3rd or 4th line on most nights. You can't compare his stats with a center who was drafted into a team who wants that player to play on the top line with 1st PP minutes. Someone can argue that Dach didn't prove himself as a first line center. Ok, maybe. But Toews is not easily replaced and Strome is also a tall big 3rd pick who's a few years older than Dach. There was simply no room for Dach on that team. So he played on the bottom 6, not top 6. They even used Dach on the wing this last season. I doubt they didn't ask St.Louis if he can do something with that kid. We witnessed Caulfield change over night playing under St.Louis. Give Dach a shot at top minutes with competent wingers and see how that goes before calling him a bust.

As many mentioned, the Montreal Top Brass have a lot of faith in Kaiden Guhle. Not simply as a top pairing defenseman, but as a big body who can dish out hits like Romanov can. So they're projecting Guhle to be able to replace Romanov in a few seasons. And it's in a few seasons that things will start to count. There's a video on youtube every Canadiens fans should watch called "Kaiden Guhle wakes up every day, and chooses violence" Watch that and tell me Guhle doesn't look like he can play like Romanov sometime soon?

So basically, after this draft the Canadiens have Slafkovsky, Dach and Guhle. But had they kept Romanov and drafted Wright, would have had Wright, Romanov and Guhle. I'd rather take my chance on the former.

    OK BYE.

  23. The excuse that Romanov didn't produce offensively is pretty poor in my opinion! Not ALL great defensemen have to be great scorers! But if you are going to try and "trade up" 🤣
    to get that scoring, 152 games – 19 goals – 40 assists – a +/- of -22 – and 71 min penalties
is NOT what I would consider a talented scorer!
Unless Dach can put up Sebastian Aho or Elias Lindholm numbers pronto this was a very poor transaction by Hughes!
I admit I probably don't know all the details of the Romanov trade and as a die hard Canadiens fan, I do hope it works out but losing Romanov is a bitter pill to swallow!
    mea sententia sine firmis 🦂🦂

  24. I guess the Habs had a thank you get together for Romy and MSL and Molson showed up….he just had to be included to get the job done and his lack of offensive upstart hurt him… Guhle will make us forget him as he hits as hard or harder and offensive wise is a lot better…

  25. Pure speculation but what if romy had ask if he could go to russia for the summer and the habs says no, but he went anyway. Romy is still in russia i think and he got an offer.. i just hope he don’t get stuck in russia. I liked Romy i was sad they trade him but it’s part of business

  26. If Lou hadn't lost Toews, I doubt this happens. Toews cap hit wasn't going to be impossible, but Lou didn't even try to make it work. He just punched the eject button. Now Lou will go to work patching up his Eberle screw-up.

  27. He should’ve been part of the rebuild. He loves to battle and throw his body around. He was getting better and better real fast. MTL will regret that move real soon.
