  1. Quick Question, since we're realistically paying Keith at 1.5m next year, Does the Oilers cap count his average (5.5m) or what we're actually paying him (1.5m)? If it counts and shows at 1.5m, I'm ok with keeping Keith.

  2. Hard pass on Debrincat or any other small soft defensively deficient skill forwards

  3. No way I would choose that player over Kane. Kane has proven he belongs. that Chicago player would be a gamble regardless of whether he played with Conor in the past or not

  4. D…does that mean an end of an era where there isn’t 5 goals against on 4 s..shots? 😭 jokes aside wish Kosk the best

  5. I get that Chicago is doing a rebuild, but I don't understand how trading DeBrincat makes sense. He's the type of talent you want to keep and build around, plus he's only 24 years old. If I'm Chicago, the only way I trade him is if he's difficult and/or is requesting to leave.

  6. Debrincat with Mcdavid would score 55+ goals just makes no sense money wise, Strome would be interesting though.

Gibson is just a hell no for me his stats have become shit with all his injuries the past 4 seasons and he would cost too much to acquire.

  7. The Oilers really need to trade Yamamoto and Jesse and try to get bigger defense and power forward to have a chance to get to the Stanley Cup finals 🇨🇦

  8. Im honestly going to miss Koskinen! He was with us for 4 years… gonna be odd not having him around. Wishing him the best in Switzerland! 😊👍

  9. Just think if Edmonton would have picked DeBrincat instead of Benson. Man that was a terrible, terrible decision. Let’s pick the Edmonton boy over a guy who lit it up with Mcdavid…

  10. The Oilers don't need a goalie, they need several goalies. If Smith goes, we have Skinner, Rodrigue and Fanti and that's it for the entire organization.

Even if Smith stays, does anyone wishing for another playoff appearance want to trust a Smith / Skinner tandem? A 41 year old with the heart of a lion but an old, clapped out, broken down body and a youngster who's showing good promise but still has only 14 games of NHL experience?

Not only that but there are only two other goalies under contract; neither of whom are anywhere near NHL ready.

We need a starter and a backup. Assuming Skinner is going to be the backup, the starter must be a dependable, sturdy guy who can be relied upon for at least a 50/50 split but more reasonably a 70/30. We also need 2-3 good steady #2/#3 guys who can play in the minors and help the other two along and who'd also not be a disaster if they had to be called up for a spell.

This is what comes from not drafting and developing goalies. We passed up on two bona fide star prospects last year. You can be left hanging when the ones you've got all go away. With all the rest he has to do, ole Kenny boy's got a helluva busy summer ahead of him!

  11. As another fan said so eloquently…."I have never seen a 27–12—4 goalie get so much hate from some fan's and media."….BINGO!….(and to that I would add a 12–2 start.)…..Was he a perfect goalie? No. Was our defence perfect? Also no. Was Smith perfect? No……And yet for the last 2 years at least, while Smith healed from his latest injury, while Skinner was going through his rookie growing pains, while our defence was figuring out to cover, while our forwards were still deciding whether they wanted to back check or not…..Mikko shouldered the load, took the heat, and did his job and held his head high. I wish you the best Mikko. All the best to you and your family. Good Luck. You earned it.

  12. Mikko was instrumental to the Oilers strong finish under JW. He was pretty damn phenomenal for a solid 2 months. He was up & down here, but I'll always remember how well he played those last couple of months.

  13. So many "fans" and Edmonton media "experts" hated on Koskinen, and he's gone now. Happy are ya? Lets see how that works out…

  14. By Kos, Malone is a filler, Smith should retire, Duncan should retire & now Kus,, sign the contract Kus

  15. Unfortunately if you’re bringing in Debrincat. You’re losing Yammo and Fogole in return. It just doesn’t make sense at his cap hit.

More realistically you’ll see a serious offer for Kane and Kuzmenko coming in cheap. Husso takes a call from McDavid and flys north of the 49th to join the Oil.

  16. Koskinen is the 2nd worst goalie to ever get payed over 20mill. He’s a career backup at best and it goes to show that the dude is running away to the Swiss league with his money since he knows he isn’t an NHL goalie.

  17. There's no way that the Oilers would be able to move out enough money to afford Debrincat. What? you gonna move out Nurse to get a skilled forward on an expiring contract?

  18. For all the slagging he got, Koski was a true gentleman and never fired back but once. He played hard and was a solid 1b most of the time. Good luck Koski, have fun in Switzerland

  19. Good Luck Mikko on your new team. I really hope both Smith and Keith retire but as said not likely both. Malone will add depth . Going to be an interesting off season seeing what changes are made. Kane will be expensive and really only see Strome as a possibility . Keep the vids rolling

  20. This was honestly one of the best video blogs I've seen. Well done. Just a few thought:

    – Evander Kane will not be re-signed. If you look at his exit tweet, he thanked Edmonton and liked Edmonton, but he knows his price is too high.

    – DeBrincat is a no. Too much money.

    – I have a hard time believing Smith and Keith retire. I wish so much they do, but both are fighters and retirement is going to be a bitter pill for them to swallow. It helps the Oilers incredibly if they retire.

    – But that being said, the Oilers will take a slight step back for one season if Keith and Smith go. Their replacements will be kids from within the system.

    – I fully expect Andrea Kuzmenko to sign with Edmonton. Same agent as Kane, and the Kane experience was brilliant for the player. Kuzmenko will be a UFA in a season, so it makes tremendous sense to play him with McDavid to rack up the points.

    – Dylan Strome might end up in Edmonton, but UFA center Ryan Strome is more likely to end up in Edmonton. Strome is a perfect third-line right shot center, something the Oilers don't have. The Oilers would have cap space if Smith and Keith leave.

    – It's possible Dylan and Ryan Strome both end up in Edmonton. It all depends on the cap situation.

    – Jesse Puljujarvi is gone. My guess is the Oilers are wanting a 2nd and a 3rd round pick for him. Currently they have no picks in rounds 2, 3 and 4. Their drafting record in recent years has been insane under Keith Gretzky and I see no reason not to give him as many picks as possible to work with.

    – Kulak will be extended. That was the biggest success story in 2021/2022.

    – In goalie, Skinner has to play. In terms of bringing in a goalie, the Oilers will try not to overspend. Names to consider: Husso, Campbell (might want too much), Kuemper, Jake Allen (via trade), Geogriev (via trade), Dreger (via trade), Jarry (via trade), Vlader (via trade). They only way Anaheim moves Gibsons to Edmonton is if Anaheim retains half his salary. The trade price would get ugly. We're talking Edmonton's #1 this year plus Dylan Holloway + a third asset. Can't see the Oilers doing it.

  21. Overall, I predict the Oilers 2022/2023 roster to look like this:

    Kuzmenko – McDavid – Hyman
    Nuge – Draisaitl – Yamamoto
Holloway – Ryan Strome – Dylan Strome
    Foegele – McLeod – Kassian

    Nurse – Bouchard
    Kudlak – Ceci
    Broberg – Barrie

    Husso
    Skinner

  22. Hearing Toronto are interested in Gibson now……so Smith has to decide what he’s doing ASAP….or like the last 2 summer they get nothing done.

  23. Here’s the problem…our GM is an imbecile. There is no analytics department to stop him from doing dumb things. Keith isn’t going anywhere…why walk from a fat contract. He’s going to be a year older and worse than he was this year. I’ve read that Oiler management likes him….how?? If Smith retires it doesn’t make a huge difference cap wise. With little cap space Kane and a number 1 goalie ain’t happening and don’t expect trades with draft picks and players, because we don’t have anything but 3rd and 4th liners (who are a dime a dozen) to trade and no draft picks. This team will struggle to make the playoffs next year.
I do think Nurse will be much better next year. After signing a huge contract he played like he had to much pressure on him, he will relax and play better. The upside is there is a lot of talent on the farm. I would also give Gretzky a lot more responsibility within the organization. He’s proven he is capable.

  24. One of your best videos so far my friend, just like a lot of others have also commented. The Strome effect would be interesting, I think if it is not Kane you need someone to put with Mcdavid that can finish. The Russian sniper could be that guy, for a season. Need a Goalie to play with Skinner, my hopes are Gregoriev or Husso.
