  1. Is it possible that Edmonton put Keith in LTIR if he returns to save his 5.5m contract? Still not convinced I'm seeing a playoff caliber defense lineup. What we're getting in return in a Barrie trade might change the picture. If he lands in Pens territory, I hope we can get Duomolin. If he lands in Habs territory, I hope we can get Edmundsson. If he lands in Seattle, I hope we can get Soucy. Samorukov might be traded for an upgrade. Hopefully Vincent Desharnias can get a chance. Very underrated after a +36 season. 6'7, can check, can fight, and can skate pretty well. It would be a dream if we can trade Darnell Nurse for Victor Hedman. Hedman will help Broberg's development.

  2. Keith isn't retiring, unless he feels really banged up. So don't get hopes up there.s

The Nurse contract is the current version of OELs, which is to say 15 to 20 percent overpay for a top pairing defender. He is a great player when healthy. If he can get back to collecting some Norrris votes for most of this contract, most fans wont mind the cost. I also think Ceci has been an ideal partner for him.

If Barrie is moved out, I hope Mayfield, or Soucy come to the Oilers as a replacement.

Oilers youth will be the main drivers this year. I expect 20% of the line up (4 -5 players) will be either in their rookie or rookie +1 seasons. It will be no different on Defence with Broberg, and company forcing there way into the line up.

Had the oilers not had the major dip in the second third of the season I think we would have seen more of the young talent get a chance with the big club last year to show what they got. Due to cap constraints there will be more of a sink or swim position placed on them next season.

  3. This will be the year whre the Oilers in-grown depth comes in. You can't rely on signings, or fill-ins. Internal growth has to take shape. Holland has done that so far.

  4. Kris Russel is a damn great defense player when he is healthy . Hope they keep him !💯🇨🇦👍🏾

  5. I hope the Oilers really look at what Kris Russel did for the team and keep him because he the top defense player in block shoots in the NHL !

  6. Barrie is a must go. Still have a hard time seeing Nurse and his cap hit. Hopefully stays healthy next season and again grows into his paycheck. Really like the heart Rusty brings but believe his time with the oilers is drawing near. Still hoping Keith retires but if he doesn’t he is a good influence on the younger D.

  7. I will miss the steadyness Russell brought. Hopefully we have someone who can block the shot the way Russell did

  8. Here are my thoughts. Absolutely brutal D structure. Nothing changing here. Still the swiss cheese of the NHL. Oilers need 2 brick wall goons desperately. They can't afford and don't need anymore puck moving defenseman. They need giant goons who will be bone crushers in the playoffs. The big question is..in a world full of affordable hockey players…where the hell are they? Oh, that's right, that's a scout's job. Maybe the first step this summer is to improve our scouting roster.

  9. I think you nailed it Patrick. Barrie had some key goals in the play-offs but is prone to gaffs. He is a pal of McD so not sure how much that influences a potential trade. Wouldn’t be surprised if he stays. Cowboy was a great trooper for us but age & health have slowed him too much.

  10. keith is dogwater he should of retired 6 years ago. every time he touchs the puck he fucks up.

  11. With Nurse being paid over $9 mil I would expect him to perform at a Cale Makar level. But he’s not close

  12. I sure hope they don't destroy the Oilers again like they do every year, what they need is a stronger defence and good goalie.
