1. re: Edvinsson. The mistakes so far and the concerns with regards to playing with urgency/making quicker decisions are largely a function of adjusting to the speed of the NHL. Simon isn't going to learn to play faster in a slow league like the AHL, because he'd just learn how to play in a slow league. Also whenever he 'graduates' from the AHL he's going to have to calibrate to NHL speed anyway. May as well start now.

And this isn't coming from a position of thinking Edvinsson is going to replicate Seider's rookie year. That is basically impossible. Both in readiness and state of the blueline. Edvinsson's development will take years. I just don't see a benefit of those years being in the AHL. Not for the Wings, we don't have 3 better LDs than Simon anyway. Or for Ed. The best teaching and the pace he needs to learn play at is in the NHL.

The Wings aren't competing this year. May as well let him calibrate to NHL speed in the NHL with NHL coaching.

Agree with pretty much everything else, but this take has bugged me for a while (I've been hearing/reading it all over the place).

  2. Hey guys maybe on a different topic but, Red Wings can't have the rookies being roughed up or intimidated by other team's veterans. Petry punched Berggren right in the head from behind. Sure he had to pay a $5,000 fine, but It has to be addressed on the ice or other teams will take liberties with the young guys. Smith do your job.

  3. Hypothetically imagine this as your forward group
    1: Raymond, larkin, bert
    2A: Soderblom, copp, Perron
    2B: zadina, suter, vrana
4: kubalik, Rasmussen, Erne/sunny/smith. I think it would be interesting. (Veleno could also be in the mix but I left him off since he doesn’t need to clear waivers)

  4. Dude I can't deal with Bergg getting shelved again. Put him in on the 4th line if u got to but let the kid get in there! Enough AHL and development at this point, he's been around 4 years and poppin off HEAVY the last 2. What more can you expect him to do?

  5. Put ‘em all in Grand Rapids so I can watch them at least once lol we didn’t get Raymond but it was nice to watch Mo

  6. Hit on Zegras was clean as soap, actually Kronwall worthy.
Zegras is gaining a reputation around the league as an arrogant dude, sort of Tkachuk brother level.

  7. Edvinsson is not ready, which is fine.. he doesnt have to be, the kid just turned 19. Send him to AHL, get him familiarized with the smaller ice and tempo.

  8. I'd like to see Berggren and Soderblom on the same line. One of them is a born passer and the other a born scorer.

  9. I want a game of thrones shirt but instead of "Winter is Coming" let it say "Rasmussen is Coming" wait… nvm… sounds too dirty.

  10. I know Ken Daniels's pain. No, <random Euro>, I know you're very polite, but I want to call you by your real name. Had to convince a bunch of Ukrainian coworkers to let me be considerate to them instead of them letting me butcher their name out of politeness. haha

  11. Listened this morning on my podcast app, but got the video going muted to bless your YouTube algorithm. Love the upgrades and can't wait for the new season. I'm ready to be hurt again.

  12. To anyone who's worried about Edvinsson, remember that Victor Hedman didn't start producing at the Hedman levels we're used to until his 5th NHL season. It takes time. Not saying he will be Hedman, but it's a good example. #LGRW

  13. I think Edvinsson plays in the Ahl and gets 9 games after the deadline. ELC slides a year and Simon should have a big payday at the same time Chiarot’s contract is done. Gotta remember that big guys takes usually longer to develop and be able to control their huge mass…Thompson, Hedman, Chara,
