  1. I would trade Barrie for JANI HAKANPÄÄ he makes 1.5 for the next to years. He is a big rh dman. My trade would be Barrie, 2nd and a b level (DMITRI SAMORUKOV maybe) prospect for Janni. This gives Edm a big steady RD to pair with Broberg and gives them cap space for whatever they want to do at the RW spot. With the money saved they could sign Mcleod to a 2 or 3 year contract if they wanted to. Also they could keep the forwards as they are and wait until the trade deadline to plug whatever holes they have then.

  2. Of the lot Evan Rodrigues is also my preference but really depends on money. They may also want a million or so for a PTO. FYI Shore and KK are still "on the roster" and Benson isn't but may be a sign and AHL shift as it's expected to be a two way contract. If they want Holloway up (and possibly another D man) they can save a little by shifting Shore and KK (not much). Of all the options the one I like the most though doubt is Barrie going elsewhere preferably for picks. I think Arizona is still below the Cap floor so they have to sign a body or two more though they don't need to do anyone favours. Great vid as always. Take care all.

  3. Edmonton should trade Barrie. Make that their number 1 priority. I like the Barrie for Bernier trade to clear cap space. Works perfectly for both sides. Then the Oilers should resign McLeod and Benson (number 2 priority). The Oilers probably won't be signing any top 4 shutdown defensemen to replace Barrie since there's none left other than Subban. Now we have 2 options. Number 1: The Oilers let go of Jesse (I'm sorry) for a D-man (maybe Holl) to clear a bit more cap space. Then we can use the remaining money to sign pure offenses like Kessel or Milano. Number 2: Trade Foegele to clear cap space and sign Evgeny Svenechnikov and Zach Aston Reese OR sign Evan Rodrigues as depth pieces.

Best case scenario is we keep both PJ, Yamo, sign McL, Benson and either Kessel or Rodrigues and get rid of Barrie for a shutdown RD. Worst case scenario, you can decide.

  4. Once again…fine fine job Patrick 👌….really hard to think of a better Oiler channel than yours..

  5. Right on Patrick thanks for the video 👍 well they should do a trade Jesse for some top draft picks I would just for some room for the upcoming player's and we need picks for next season….

  6. How many times is this fan base going to run good players out of town. Puljujarvi is always positive in plus ➕ minus ➖, Yamamoto is always negative and sucks big time in the playoffs, trade Puljujarvi and kiss our Stanley Cup window goodbye.

  7. Just as pressing
We have three dmen who will have to be waived if they don’t stick w the big club; dehanais, nemelin, and samorukov

  8. Benson might get moved . Also one or two trades must be coming to keep must keep players .

  9. Well if bernie is on LTIR then why doesn't holland dump Pullijarvi Benson and samarukov to New Jersey get bernie back and be 5 million under the cap

  10. Rodrigues would be my choice as well. Interesting options but Holland is no fool. Still believe this team is in better shape than it has been in a long time. I will be surprised if JP or Barrie will be Oilers on opening day but will be fine if they are still on the team. Keep the vids rolling.

  11. Well, in a way, getting under the cap is the first objective, because they have to do that or there is no season.

Also, how would adding Bernier add cap space? I mean, sure he creates cap, but that's the same cap he also brings, so it should be a zero sum game, right?

  12. As always, great content.

My thinking is Holland is going to hold until the Evander Kane arbitration is fully resolved. It's like 95% Kane stays in Edmonton, but there is a slight possibility SJ gets him back or the league does something dumb that somehow costs the oilers cash or picks here. Historically pre-lockout there had been some dumb calls by the league that really messed up a teams plans.

Rodriguez is my favorite to see signed, and I'm surprised he is still available. But he will likely be 3MM/yr Milano is second for me and I can see being signed in the 1.5-2MM range.

Barrie has a lot of trade value as an offensive dman on a good contract. He maybe slotted on the oilers 3rd pairing, but the way TOI / Quality of Competition minutes are divided in Edmonton it is very close to 2nd line second pairing many teams would see. I think moving him out without getting a genuine solid all around player back is a mistake. Only a few players league wide fit this definition and are on a cheaper contract. Holl, Mayfield, Roy, Weegar. Which points to players that are generally valued, by their teams. Of those I listed two play on division rivals, and won't be available. On is on a cap strapped team, and the other players GM has noted they are not make a trade to help another team out. If we take a step down in player quality or look for one who can play both sides Hakanpaa, Soucey, are considerations.

Bernier is interesting, and currently the oilers are making Katz a lot of money. So that might be something that happens. However many other teams are also going to look at that option.

  13. Hey Patrick tell me your thoughts on this trade proposal.

    To Edm: B. Little {LTIR} $5.3 & 2nd round pick 2023
    To Arizona: JP $3 and T. Barrie $4.5 and a First 2023
Edmonton gains $13 million in cap space

Edm turns around and signs Mcloed$1 , Kessel $2, and Pk Subban $1.5 with more wiggle room to add let's say P. Kane's $5 cap hit, at the deadline. Thoughts?

  14. K wait.. What if the Oilers don't sign McLeod or Benson, and makes a trade involving Jesse? That put's them under the cap with room to bring in a player or two that may actually be able to produce at a higher level.

Another thought, though widely unpopular I would imagine… Would Yamamoto be a better choice for a trade target? Objectively a better player that Jesse, with an almost identical cap hit. The return would likely be more than a second rounder. Maybe a second and a prospect? Or perhaps even a first round?

  15. We have a contract with skater koekoe who did not play a game last year in the ahl or nhl probably should not play this year…his contract is less then a million but it would help in signing maccleod!

  16. On CapFriendly I signed Ryan McLeod for $1,185,000, and ran a 20 man roster including Janmark, Holloway and Broberg, and it said I was still (barely) under the cap.

No panic. Anyone who gets injured calls-up someone cheaper, and injuries should be expected.
